Linguica Posted November 8, 2000 Now, this isn't Doom news exactly, but since it happens only once every four years I figured it would be somewhat important, at least for all you Americans out there. George W. Bush has been declared the next President of the United States as of 2:20 AM EST. Looks like the Doomworld poll which showed Bush with a very slim win over Gore was pretty accurate as this has been the closest election in a very long time. Update 5:00 PM EST: OK, so Bush doesn't have it quite as wrapped up as was previously assumed. This could take a while. 0 Share this post Link to post

Carnevil Posted November 8, 2000 Man, still can't believe George "Duh" Bush won. I thought Gore would pull through in the 11th hour with Florida, but obviously that didn't happen. But hey, I highly doubt that the country would be that different if Gore had been elected president, anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 Bush won. It has come to my attention with this announcement that the American public, the vast majority of it, is comprised of BLITHERING FUCKING IDIOTS. Why on EARTH they would vote for such a wishy-washy, dishonest man who likes to use hyperbole to stretch "facts" is beyond me. Personally, it'd be a slap in the face to vote for a guy who doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "subject-verb agreement". Come ON, people. He has the intellect of a cinder block! The man can't conjugate the verb "be"! HE'S A FUCKING FRAT BRAT!!! Guess it's time for me to start developing a drinking problem. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest The SuperFly Posted November 8, 2000 George W. Bush won and frankly I'm glad! My first 4 years in the Marine Corps will pretty much parallel his presidential career (at least for the first 4) and at this point I'm happier to be working for him rather than anyone else. He was the best of the worst and it's a very very good thing he won. Who would you rather? Gore the puppet? Nader the Socialist? what the government needs is a swift kick in the pants and I finally think it'll get one. Sincerely, The SuperFly 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest cocoon Posted November 8, 2000 It would have been much better off with the Gore-guy. Despite his name he wanted lesser guns from what I have heard. And wasn't he more left wing? This was sad news... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest The SuperFly Posted November 8, 2000 Heh, looks like I'm the only one with any sense who stayed up this late. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 More like "swift kick to the ground". Bush embodies the failure that public education can produce. (I was public schooled, so don't start with me there :p) http://politics.slate.msn.com/Features/bushisms/bushisms.asp Sound familiar? Or do you refuse to forget that the man that was just elected as our next president caused 3 of his father's businesses that were given to him to completely TANK? He was a failure then, and he's a failure now. You'll be singing a different tune when he runs the country like those 3 deceased companies. I hope you're happy with the simpleton you just elected. 0 Share this post Link to post

Guest Grul! Posted November 8, 2000 Gore should have won. He has the cooler name. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest o-tech Posted November 8, 2000 one of swedens largest and most respectable newspapers, "Dagens Nyheter" (www.dn.se) had a poll on their site for who you'd have voted for if allowed to parttake in the american election. Gore got 65%, Bush 17% and nader 13%. The rest chose the option "vote blank". I'd have gone for Nader any day. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest CocoT Posted November 8, 2000 I can't believe American people voted for someone whose skills in international politics are so clearly low. Come on, this guy can't even make the difference between some African and Asian countries ! I agree the man on the street can't either, but this guy is supposed to run one of the most powerful countries in the world ! (sigh) Pretty bad news for Europe if he becomes President, too ... oh well ... I'm listening to CNN right now and apparently, things AREN'T so sure as far as Florida is concerned. Votes are being re-counted. Will we see an unexpected turn of events ??? I doubt it, but we can always wish :-) 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 Well, now I have a [b]LOT[b] more respect for Swedes now. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Shaviro Posted November 8, 2000 We hate Bush in Denmark! At least most of us do! 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 Florida was REALLY careful with their vote count in hindsight of the first mistake. Since the count was so close, they automatically have to do a recount. I seriously doubt that the outcome will change. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Ferrari Posted November 8, 2000 I wasn't following that closely until a few hours ago. Was playing curling. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest CocoT Posted November 8, 2000 There will be a recount in Florida. It's official news right now. cnn.com 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Ferrari Posted November 8, 2000 The news just said that margin between Gore and Bush in Florida is about 1,200, and over 5,000 votes left to be counted. Chances is things can turn around... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest CocoT Posted November 8, 2000 Damn it ... No speech yet ... I guess I'll have to keep my RealPlayer running a little longer :-P 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 Yeah, they have to. The count was close enough to mandate it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Ferrari Posted November 8, 2000 It is now all up to Florida...the decider... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Wyvern Posted November 8, 2000 I'm a native Floridian, so if they do the stupid thing I'm gonna burn my Florida flag and cut the word "UNCLEAN" on my forehead with a blunt, rusty fish gutting tool. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest CocoT Posted November 8, 2000 Sounds like these funky people out there in the rain will have to wait a little bit longer before dancing again on 2Unlimited's "Are you ready for this" ... :-))) 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest zokum Posted November 8, 2000 Congratulations with the move from democracy to theocracy. I really dig Bush, and I totally agree about atheists not being proper Americans living in the land of the free. Lets hope for some more capital punishment too! 0 Share this post Link to post
