j00 equals dead.. then why don't you create something new and revolutionary instead of complaining that there wasn't enough 'new stuff' in AV. I'm just glad that AV was actually released as i was worried that it was never gonna come out like so many other doom megawads out there.. It's hard to add something compeltely fresh to a very old game like doom, and AV, to my knowledge, never had plans to modify or change their mod from the original doom feel.

Ded: you are good at complaining. You'r entitled to your opinions of course, but to say the textures didn't suit the levels is sorta cute =D

Evilfuse, thanks, you are quite right :) We never inteded to add anything that would change the original feel. We wanted a decent looking megawad with good gameplay, where skill 4 is specifically aimed at compet-N players.

As a sidenote, I think a few people will loose interest during the last half of the 2'nd episode if they are playing skill 4. Tried to emphasize this in the txt, skill 2 (or possible 3) would be the setting most people would get fun out of, as the later levels are _alot_ tougher than the first 12 or so.

J00 equals retarded: Uhm.. so if doom was perfect we would play the same levels on and on and on, and everytime be as supriced when the 2 imps fire their fireballs on us in e1m1? anmd it would stay as hard, get lost.. that's not logic way of thinking. Gamers get better and challenges get harder..

For me the real strength of AV is its "back to basics" gameplay feel.

To me it is so much of what Doom2 really should have been, but unfortunately wasn't.

ive been playing AV on skill 2, i had read the later levels are tough, so it has to be like that for me, i won't pass to a higher skill unless i get to know the maps (and have the time to familiarize myself more with the megawad)

and i'm playing through a level and then saving for later: im assuming most levels wont have problems saving on skill 2 (im using doom2, OF COURSE)

as for the design, i find it entertaining, and not unappealing visually (im still in the first 'episode' though, so i cant judge the higher levels yet)

im on map13 now..map11 is my favourite so far. really cool theme and gameplay but the gameplay in the end honestly kinda sucked...heh. map08 was also nice i think and all the rest were nice too....

by the way, its funny how when someone says something u dont like each of u start preaching and stuff..i must have read "everyones entitled to their opinion" a thousand times still u comment someone elses opinion start a discussion and wanna change it..

and why didnt u post the pic of the day i sent? this ones so small u coulve posted both..

Hey fuckers!!! This megawad is kind of weird but overall its a pretty well orientated piece of work. Just thoguht I'd add my two cents in. Anyhow, 'm only on map 14 and I doubt I'll ever finish since I really never have finished a megawad. They just seem to get boring after awhile.

I've just read over the posts about AV and it's "lack" of new features, whether those be textures, weapons, monsters or whatever, and I'd urge people to remember that not everyone has the same tastes. Personally, I don't have much interest in most coversions that offer lots of new weapons and monsters, because I play Doom to play *Doom*, not some new game. That seems to be the basis on which AV has been built: an emphasis on recreating the gameplay and 'feel' of the original Doom experience. And that's a perfectly valid thing to do with a megawad. It's been clearly stated as the goal by the team members, and it achieves them.

But it's also not the *only* valid type of megawad. If you have the skills and the desire to create a "TC", with new weapons and monsters, more power to you. Have a blast. A lot of people will doubtless be really eager to play it. I won't be one of them, but I also won't be cluttering up these Comments areas with posts bitching about the fact that you created a kind of megawad that didn't appeal to me.

AV sets out to provide good gameplay with a classic Doom2 feel. It delivers this. Complaining that it has no new monsters is like complaining that a game of football doesn't have enough swimming in it - true, but completely irrelevant.

If you want new monsters and weapons, go play (or better yet, contribute to) a project which aims to deliver those things. That's a far better way to get what you want than to complain that apples aren't oranges! :-)

Just wanted to let you know that you're my hero.
And you know, a little redesign on map07 and map30 would make my skill 5 pacifist run a bit easier.

See, I used to have a hard time with pacifist, then I found out about the -nomonsters parameter.

Really helps a lot, and it's not listed in the cheat codes section, so it must be valid.

Hey, maybe sometime me and you can do a 30nm through av. or even a 30ns

-nomonsters is the biggest revelation in doom since.. .well, um.. since they discovered IDKFC. which stands for "I.D. that bloody KFC", because they didn't know if the chicken was real or not, so they had to double check to make sure. so they ID'd it.

It also gives you all keys and weapons, well, I guess the weapons are for you to shoot illegal/fake KFC, and the keys are so you can get access to the porn that was in the KFC's lockers. After you killKFC, you get whatever it owned. They are quire horny kfc, so you get lot's opf porn
or so I hear....

shut up. both of you. if you hate old stuff so much go play that newfangled quake 3 tourneystrike tagcraft or whatever that thing is. otherwise, keep your mouths shut. the point is that these guys are trying to keep the community alive, and people like you are a cancer to the community. people you have killed off a community more often than not with your false ideas and notions that everything should be new, new, new. you're idiots. i'd like to see you make something that surpasses every great project we've seen so far. i dare you. this is my challenge: create a large wad (with at least 11 levels) that, in your opinion, surpasses everything we've seen so far, from darkening e2 to qdoom to AV to phobos anomaly reborn to gothic 99. i dare you. just try. perfect gameplay, perfect design, perfect aesthetics. . . do this and you'll gain my respect. one hitch: it has to actually be good in the eyes of others in the community. try it if you think you can do something better than anything else so far.

you guys will not admit that nothing is perfect. this mod is not perfect. if it was, then no one would be complaining. yes, people other than myself and cj. so, in essence, it is not perfect.

im good at complaining. im good at finding the bad points in things. but that does not stop me from seeing the good points.

i rest my case. there is argument where there are no facts. when it comes to gameplay, it is entirely opinion. there is no fact to be had with an opinion.

Yup,'Hillside Siege',Lee Szymanski & Anthony Soto.I enjoyed this map a lot,particularly the entry to the Red door with the awkward side-fire and the clever return to the first area via the second Red door.A1.

I just played the first few levels of Alien Vendetta on the hardest skill.(not Nightmare), I didnt need codes untill the 3rd level. Thats one of my favorite levels I've ever played. especially the portal at the end, I've done stuff like that before, But I've never actually drawn my own terxtures for it. looked sweet! theres just

one question...are you supposed to jump to get the red key in the 3rd level, or was it not made for source ports? When I load it with ZDoom the menu is all fucked up so I figured It wasnt meant for ZDoom.

It was intended to be played using "vanilla" Doom2.exe. Just delete the M_DOOM entry in av.wad and you'll have your regular menu back when you play it using Zdoom.
