Deus Ex is damned fun.

Part of that fun is deciding how you want to balance your weapons and inventory.

Games don't have to be like arcade games in order to be called fun.

i would be perfectly happy if they just remade doom1 with better graphics. I am afraid if they tamper with it too much they will destroy the original concept, which is what makes Doom golden.

True. But I think if they made another arcade style game, one with the exact same gameplay of DOOM. Meaning the player moved through the environment as fast as he does in DOOM and basically replicate everything in DOOM - keeping it simple - staying away from realism. The game engine and graphics would make it intensely fun once the DOOM gameplay was in place. If I were a game designer - that's what I'd do. The unfilled Niche.

I can remember antother game that had weapon balancing...Rise of the Triad...you could only carry a bazooka, a flamer, or a heat-seeker at one time. I think those were the weapons.
