In case you haven't noticed, it's the Republicans who're pushing for censorship. Democrats know better than that (they need the support of the ACLU).

Yes. That is correct. But if deadnail were here, he would certainly point out it's the Democrats that are using the school shootings and such as political ammo for gun control....

Everyone has an agenda.

My school bans almost every game-related site on the net. Of course, me and my friends have found a way to get round it.... but thats not the point ;)

Jesus, kill that banning system.

I spreaded NetBus all over the labs, heheheheh. "Shutdown" when someone is programming is really, really funny :D
In fact, I installed Duke3D, DooM and Callus95 (my professors never bothered checking what were we doing)...

That this would happen could have seen before (I mean: It was painted in big letters on the wall).

Doom raised in a democratic period. Since the actual government cares a lot about religious beliefs and moral we can be happy that all Doom related pages have not been shut off by now.

Here in Germany we are much more free when it comes to moral (or what some religious blockheads tell you what moral is), but we also have our teachers who cares about the negative influence of TV and computer games on children mind. But I am guessing that US guys can expect to see some unwell in the future...

(when I say "religious blockheads", I do not mean believers generally, only that fascists that would like to pull their own belief over other peopleĀ“s heads. I would guess that the average american christian has the mental configuration of a north korean communist. I have nothing against people who believe in jesus and stuff with PEACE in mind)

But in Germany isn't Wolfenstein and Doom2 containing the secret levels still banned?

Yes, you are right. Well, our teachers are very concerned about our childrenĀ“s mental healthy. Not only Doom2 containing the NS style levels are banned, the version without that levels too. Also many other games like Rott, Quake, Marathon.
Note: When a game is "banned" in Germany it means that it is not considered suitable for children under 18 years of age. It is not for sale for persons below that age. Sale to persons over that age is legal. Nobody cares about it (sometimes german ebay uses to cancel game auctions just to be safe)

I wonder what will happen with games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor : Allied Assault.

does anyone here still in school have to watch a show called channel one? if your not in school and/or dont watch the show in it about a week after the school shootings they reported the the kids who commited the columbine shootings did it because a video game and a video game only made them do it...that video game was doom...they said that in doom the ONLY object is go around killing people...and they had a clip of some guy playing entryway and only killing all the zombiemen in the beginning...this infuriated me because that isnt the only object of the game and there were other monsters other than human looking ones...i sent them hate mail after hate mail after hate mail..i got a letter from them one day telling me to stop..i was so pissed...but to be frankly honest doom helps me get rid of my violent thoughts..it doesnt increase them...if somebody pisses me off and i cant do anything about it i just go play doom and take it out on all the enemies when im done i feel a helluva lot better....phew...

The way I heard it was that, at least originally, it was completely illegal to sell the version of Doom2 with the Wolf3D secret levels included in Germany - not just to under 18s but to anyone. Has this been changed now?

?

My first Doom2 box I bought at a big game trader who use to post big ads in Computer magazines. That trader sold the games as "US-version". I do not believe that Doom2 US version has been totally banned in Germany at any time. But I know that wearing Doom t-shirts is forbidden here. I will try to investigate that.

Did you know that some socialist polititians in Germany thought about the following:

Banning folding knifes

Adding an extra tax on every new sold computer system

A penalty tax for couples without children

special job projects and financial support for Nazis (!!!) hoping that it will turn out that they quit their "political engagement" under a better social situation.

I think those are actually good measures. Folding knives are banned here in Portugal too.
