Hyena Posted June 3, 2000 I love the shotgun! How can you say such a thing about my favourite all-around weapon? I'm not sure I agree with everyone who says Doom 3 should have a railgun, but I'd like to see an extensive weapon set. And doom wouldn't be doom without the chainsaw, hope they include that. As for starting with a pistol, I think it's fine as long as they increase the firing rate a little. I also think they need to make the chaingun a little more like the one on predator. The firing rate should gradually speed up as you shoot and slow down after you let go of the trigger, still spewing a few last shots. It should make a mechanical whirring sound, and continue spinning for a few seconds after it stops firing. 0 Share this post Link to post

I would like a 'predator fell' in the chaingun, and the _old BFG_ back. No rails or pipe bombs allowed. That's for Quake. And no machine-guns or nailguns: only the chaingun!!! And like in DooM you should start with your fist and pistol. /Quad Well I dunno, I think a really well done RailGun would be a really good addition to the game. If you've ever seen the film Eraser you'll know what the railgun was meant to look like :) It should have very limited ammo though, sorta like an uber-weapon along with the BFG. Tawney Posted June 4, 2000 The great thing about DooM's weapons were they all had a tactical advantage and disadvantage to them, making them all important to use (exception fist and pistol). Whatever the weapons, they all need to have a unique advantage and disadvantage to them. I do have one hope. The chainsaw needs to be a valuable asset to the arsenal. Instead of the chainsaw moving down a little and hurting a monster like the chaingun, I want to actually swing at it and chop its leg, head, torso, whatever off!!! I really think they should still have a rocket launcher in the new DooM, but add some uniqueness to it. If new weapons are to be added, I would at least like to see one or two hellish style weapons. One thing is for sure, if they put in something like a sniper rifle I will definately puke. 0 Share this post Link to post

Plasma gun should be kept and the SSG but not 2 ssg's at a time, this guy can beat hell but hes gotta have some realistic qualities. I think that the pistol should be kept the same if anything. The speed that it shoots at is perfect in keeping the scared mood when you're against a hellknight with one, because you need to keep backing up cause it takes so long. The pistol in Doom and Doom 2 sounded pathetic and although its meant to be a weak weapon, no hand gun anywhere sounds so feeble. Also a better hand gun should be available (desert eagle?) packing more of a punch. I still wanna see a rocket launcher in there with good splatter effect upon all bad guys if it makes the killing blow, unlike in old Doom where only men and imps suffered! Dont lets get bogged down with real weapons, this is a game. Sniper rifles and 'Uzi 9mm' etc. can leave now! Hellish weapons are good. Lets have loads of weapons, but ammo not always available for the more exotic arms. Keep things interresting. 0 Share this post Link to post

No Rocketlauncher?!!!! How can you say that? It`s one of those weapons I love most about DooM. The Rocket going slowly forwards, and you can see the enemies schredd. A lovely Feeling. And what is that about realistic weapons? DooM is a futuristic game, and not really a realistic game. Cacodemons... are those realistic. And by the way: Railgun is one of the best things in the Quake-series. The sound is exellent, the trail where you can track down you enemy, and the lange amount of damagepoints. By the way, railgun is possable to make, though it hard to hold while firing. Lord FlatHead Posted June 5, 2000 Here's my take on the useability of the original weapons : Fists / Chainsaw : Chainsaw would be cool if there was a lot of close combat. Pistol : In my opinion, shouldn't be included unless they give it a new look and sound. Shotgun : The standard weapon for use in Doom1, this should definately be included. Super Shotgun : They simply MUST include this, for the sound effect alone. "Cha-chunck-BOOM !" Chaingun : Seems OK if they'd speed it up a bit like in Quake2. RL : Pretty obvious. Plasma gun : The Q3A version looked pretty good, though I liked the old sound effect better. BFG : Should be included. I personally like the Q3A rapid-fire better than the old method (takes a bit more skill, and feels more powerful). 0 Share this post Link to post
