Erased. Over. Out. UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Oh kiddies, it's that time of year again.

The annual format and reinstall of everything.

I won't be on the net probably all Saturday. I know, I know, you're all crushed. Especially you, SoKatH.

Dog reamer.

So anyhoo~
I figured I'd start up another weapons conversation. Now, I know we've all gone through this (time and time and again) before, but now that I've learned a little bit and that I've realised just how quickly weapons technology advances, I'd say it's time to flail that dead horse again.

( ) ( )

Put these two dots where they belong. • •
No peeking at the answer, ladies.

Now that that's out of the way, let's go. Fire one up and lean back.

Okay, melee weapons. Obviously you can't punch all day. You'll break something important in your hand, plus you will eventually get tired. Watch a boxing match half an hour in. Since it has been brought up about cybernetic armor, what about technologically advanced gauntlets? On the back of the left one is a console that displays almost useless info, for show only. As for the business end, I'm thinking blades. Maybe predator like blades. Possibly electrified, but that would consume cells.

With a cybernetic armor suit, you could communicate with ingame computers. Download maps from a blueprint server, get information, communicate with other survivors, get mission info and orders, that sorta thing. Perhaps you could also find hidden software updates, such as a heat sensor that sorta shows where the enemies are in your automap.

Doom 3 must have an automap, BTW, it must.

Would these cybernetic gauntlets improve aiming? How? How would you explain this one?

Upgrades for melee level combat would be many, some out of total desperation. Jeremy (I think) came up with throwing whatever's handy while you run like a bitch. Your gun clicks, you throw a chair. While the Imp gets back up you reload. Handy. Hit a zombie in the head with a rock. Tear a Goddamn pipe off of the wall and club a pig demon to death with it. I'm really fond of the pipe idea, Secondary fire should be block.

Now then, for the pistol. The Beretta 92FS that was in Doom has been a practically obsolete pistol for years. There are guns that are cheaper, more reliable, have fewer moving parts and are more accurate.

Such as the Glock. Glocks are great pistols, and contain only 33 parts. They aren't made of steel, but a resin polymer that's a third stronger than steel and 86% lighter. This compound is also more resistant to heat expansion. Glocks will even fire underwater, and supposedly never jam. The three point safety system is also safer and more reliable than a single or double action pistol. They only weigh a little over a pound.

US Policemen carry a Glock 17, which is a full size 9mm pistol with a magazine capacity of 17 rounds. The Glock 18 is the military issue, which also has a switch for full auto. I'm not sure how fast it is, but John Travolta shot one at the other guy over the nuke near the end of Broken Arrow. Supposedly it can fire off all 17 rounds before the first casing hits the ground. Makes just starting off in a deathmatch somewhat fair, I'd say. :)

Now then, the Glock 31 is the .357 magnum pistol. It holds a full 15 rounds on a standard sized magazine. So, what if in the future they have a Glock 31 with the firing mechanism of a Glock 18, with the added feature of another selection?

Semi-Auto
Burst
Full-Auto

Semi-Auto, somewhat slow fire, Doom speed, accurate.
Burst, 3 shot clusters, very handy.
Full-Auto, aka "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!" firing mode. ;)

Okay, so a Glock 31 with this firing mechanism would be my choice of pistol. That would make the weakest bullet in the game a .357 magnum, which would keep the Doom bravado going well and strong, plus, this would also make the cybernetic armor thing really fly since this bullet is so deadly and we know in the game it's going to take probably 15 bullets to drop your enemy.

I would figure that sometime in the next 200 year or whenever Doom 3: The Choice Of A New Generation takes place that someone would've made a real and newly updated combat shotgun.

Double barrelled.
Magazine fed.
Closed chamber firing pin mechanism. Safer; will fire underwater.
Powerful recoil system to reduce kickback greatly.
Resin polymer construction, plastic lookin'.

Everything else is up in the air as far as I'm concerned.

Okay, shit's goin' down now. Um, how do you like the pistol idea?

===============Update====

Woah. Whutta fuckin' mornin'!

Anyhow, you guys know that Castlevania for PSX, Symphony of the Night, was a watered down version of what the Japs got, right? Well, later on Konami released a more complete version for the Sega Saturn in Japan called 'Nocturne in the Moonlight'.

I just bought it.

In a little video game store in fucking NOWHERE Michigan I just snagged a perfect import Castlevania for Saturn disc!!!

Next week I'm getting a Saturn & a SSGameshark so I can play imports. Man, the art on this disc is incredible! It's cool they added the art as bmp files... and the succubus chick, wow, nice nekkid picture. Considering alla the nudity they got away with on the PSX version I can only imagine what's on this game! :)

Whatta store. Brand new & unopened Jaguar systems, as well as unopened games and loose paks. Sega Genesis, Compact Genesis, Genesis 3, 32X, Sega CD, Sega CD Compact, Nomads, Complete Genesis, CD & 32X system in one tiny unit (boy, that never sold!), all of them. They even have ALL of the 32X CD games! There were 7 made and they have 'em! They also have all of the Dooms (except Final, of course.. figures), even the red SNES cart and the 32X cart... and both PSX and SegaCD and Saturn and N64... and 3D0 even, and even a 3D0. Didn't they only make four of those ugly black things? :)

Man oh man oh man, they even have a Virtual Boy!!! I even had one of those (until my dog ate it). Teleroboxer was awesome.

Sorry, I'm on a gamer overload right now.

ALSO, the had a SHITLOAD of import games! A whole damn stack of import SNES carts, even Bahamut Lagoon! Oh well, I already have the ROM... they also have Dreamcast Imports! They have a Biohazard 2 (Resident Evil 2) Remix dual GD with high quality movies and a bonus third GD demo of Code Veronica. I shoulda got it, just to have it. Even though I do have the Utopia Boot CD...

They also had Soul Caliber running on a 36 inch TV. I need a bigger TV.

And a shotgun.

Family is the dirtiest f word I know.

Gotta go, considering homicide.

I agree with all your ideas here :)

Something I'd also like to see is a huge mini-gun as seen in the first Predator film. Something so heavy that perhaps you have to drop most of your other weapons to carry it, or you can only use it for a limited amount of time, power-up style.

Um, all the ammo is fed through the backpack and the weight is supported by your back via a crane. Other than that it fires 3000 rounds a minute.

At last a very good post to talk about.

First than all, i´m from the bunch of guys who believe that DooM should use "heavy, old" weaponry style. No, im not talking about old crappy Winchesters. Im talking about weapons that don´t sound like "Mass Driver 5800TX", "Kinetix Cluster-tripmine launcher" or "Multi-phased particle projector".

I like the Glock idea. I believe that DooMs occur like in 2200, but it should have weaponry familiar to us. I love the full automatic style, sorta Blood II pistols in alt-fire.

Meleee weapons. That could not have worked on the previous DooMs, but it could make an appearance here. Interactive scenery would allow us to even throw sheets of paper to Demons. Everything should be grabeable, lifted, kicked, pushed/pulled. Imagine, you could device barricades with that stuff.

Armor. Todays armor are getting more thicker, resistant and most important, lighter and flexible. DooM marines used that medieval like piece of metal. They should have full flexible combat armor by then, so gauntlets could be a possibility. About electrified blades, that would be like combining standard army issue knives with tasers. I see some logic here, so i agree on that.

Cybernetic stuff on armor. I mentioned that somewhere, so i agree too.

About the automap. Ahh, this is a programmers dilema. If you make an easy to understand automap, it means that you´re wasting level design in therms of "overviewing aspect". If you make a simple "read the f**ing .BSP and draw some wire", then you´ll get Descent awful system.
A sollution could be pre-rendered maps from the human levels. Like files downloaded to your armor. You don´t know a shit about Hell and other places, so there would be no files about that.

Gauntlets. Improve aiming? At least they can be more effective, they could suminister adrenaline in small packs to the arms, decreasing contraction and relaxation times of muscular tissue, increasing speed & strenght. Could be a permanent upgrade if we make adrenaline packs come again.

Shotgun. Sure, there´s a lot of technical progress today. So, what could we expect in that year? Anyway, for tradition´s sake, we need an old good Double Barrelled Shotgun (aaah, the memories!).

Absolutely BRILLIANT! Take a bow, bucko, you're a genius!

-The Knives I Mentioned:
Would be built into the gauntlet part of the armor suit. Predator style. Fwa-ching.

-Cybernetics In Armor:
Hell, it probably was your idea. :)

-Automap Solution:
Build the BSP. Build the data for the bots like Q3, so the enemies know how to utilize their surroundings. Build the data for the automap, either floor by floor, or auto-rotating descent style. The automap would be simplified, boxes by boxes.

-Gauntlet Aiming:
I was thinking, they could have small EMP pulse generators that could push your hand a little for better aim. It's one of those things that eventually WILL be in the army, but until it is it just sounds gay I guess.

-SoKaTH:
Fagblaster or Tweedledick?

Ah, the traditional Dance of Reinstallation. I´m an illuminated, 2 years with no reinstalls at all & counting. But, Windows still make some fight, right now im downloading new drivers for my video card, since they have MISTERIOUSLY (cough!microsoftcough!) dissapear and staring at this forum at 640X480X16 (yes gentlemen, the 16 stands for colors, not bits)

But enough talking about problems (cough!microsoftcough!), lets go back to guns :

Talking about guns, do you know what a Metal Storm gun is??

For those who don´t know, imagine a gun not bigger than a shoe box, with no moving parts, and that can fire up to 1,000,000 rounds per minute (today´s gun ussually archieves 6,000 rounds per minute). Yep, it´s true, the bullets can punch 9 mm holes and are distanced by 10 centimeters each one while flying (normal gatling guns archieve separations of 30 meters, 30x bigger).
They´re electrically powered, but uses very little energy. They can be used to shower with metal a terrain from an helicopter and detonate hidden mines. Imagine how quick they would rip off a limb from the CyberDaemon, or turn his face into red pulp. Their only drawback is that they can no be manually recharged, only in a factory they can be refilled. (wich makes thing more balanced if such a weapon gets into DooM3) As for the shape, it´s nothing more than a little box with 12-16 holes as cannons.

Yes, but how what would you do with it when you want to use another weapon? Yes, you'd just have to dump it, like I said (kind of) :)

I grow weary of your insolence, you misbegotten spawn of alcohol induced sodomy!

I'm a vaginal-blood-fart? Cute.

I will skin you alive with a fragment of a mirror, watching your skill roll off like sheets of papyrus that I will write my murder confession on, IN YOUR BLOOD you fucking stain of humanity!

Whew, I feel better having said that. :)

You're nothing but a limp dick in an orgy.

You are the jagged stone passing through my urethra.

I pray for the video when someone finally realises that you are just not worthy of our air, you insipid survivor of late term abortion.

The doctor didn't say, its a boy!
He screamed, its, its, its... ALIVE! GOD HELP US ALL!

I want to force a well shaken can of pepsi down your throat, followed by six pounds of pop rocks, then beat your with the dull end of a fire ax until they mix and you explode!

CuntStaple!
