Will DOOM 3 beat the old DOOM games?

Shure! DOOM 3 looks really cool but what about the gameplay?
I just hope that id hasn't put too much effort into making it look good and not enough into making it a great game...

They have obviously spent way too much time on making it look good. The story and gameplay will probably be crap, but at least it'll be doom, and Ill accept it anyway. Whats gonna be awesome is the games that use the engine later on....

Well, a sucess like DooM will never be recreated again. But, iD´s still has a chance to make better gameplay than the original DooMs had. Why? DooM was a very cut-down version of another design sketch. Most of the stuff was taken out, due to technical and time problems.
Now they have the chance to make a better game. While it won´t be as succesful as the first ones (no game will ever be) the game itself could be a hall of fame candidate for the next years...
