The true DooM feeling... okey dokie

Recommended Posts

Guest Hannibal Lecter

That's the only thing I really want in the new game, well maybe some tons of gore, blood and guts... good guns, good interactive team mates, which you can eat if you have low energy.

BTW; I ate his eyeballs, with some seabass caviar; not so good, but...

Zaldron, Que me recomiendas para acompañamiento de un maldito profesor de matematicas?

No creo que el hijo de puta se merezca nada realmente de calidad...

Your absolutly right about that.Nothing compares to DOOM,no other game.Doom is the best there is,the best there ever will be.
The feeling of DOOM is spectacular,it's hard to describe but it's awsome.Take Duke Nukem or Qauke,or another FPS,they're all good(I only like Duke 3d,thats decent,the rest crap) but anyways,they just dont measure up to DOOM.If your a true DOOMer Such as mySelf,You sHOULD underSTAND what im talking about,yes?
I dont know why or how, it just is.

And when THE new DOOm comes out,I hoPe it will have the same,orginal feeling that DOOM,DOOM 2,FINAL DOOM,DOOM 64 will have,maybe more so advanced!DOOM 3 will ovbiousily have new monsters,wepons and so ON,so it will be extended into a more demonic/marine/hellish/darkness feeling of terror as you fight your way through the undead and creatures from another dimension.
Just imagine moving through a dark corridor and you stumble upon a corpse of one of your buddies from the platoon and just than an imp or bulldemon jumps at you out of the darkness ready to slice and dice/burn you mother fuckin ass off.

How wounderful would that be eh?(damn Canadian accent,I should never of lived here,eh,im not talking aboot it,just joking)
Back to what I was saYING it should rule.And thats all I got's tah says abouts thats,yah?

To have the true doom feeling, the player must be able to move fast and the ability to control the game must be simple.

Unlike mechwarrior, and most n64 games, doom's heritage is simple gaming. I wouldn't mind two or three additional keys like jumping/crouching and inventory - but it must be definate that you shouldn't have to use them very often. I don't want to feel like I need 20 fingers or four arms to play the damn thing, my keyboard/mouse config is just fine.

As far as the doom experience goes, you need to be able to play the game in any style you want. For me, it's a dodging routine, if Im stopped by a baron o' hell, I just let him come out in the open and then I go around him (or blow his ass away with my SSG). To some it's a chop-fest with the chainsaw or a chaingun (or whatever weapon you want, but all the monsters have to die). For others, it's all a matter of getting all the secrets or taking routes not usually followed.

Teammates should be sparce and shouldn't stick around long (maybe even resort to having them fall in lava and other funny stuff). Ie, it's good to know that they are there, they just shouldn't help you out that much.

...something about a math professor, huh?

Yeah, duke3d just wasn't very serious, had a super-hero theme to it.

Quake was jsut cheezy, and Quake2 had a simple military theme to it (didn't like how I never saw the other soldiers).

Oh, yeah, and the best way to go through a whole platoon of highly trained marines is turn the fucking lights off and release the imps... those gung-ho bastards are dead as hell (this shit happened to you in memento mori alot).

Turning the lights off abruptly is actually a very effective attack tactic against a group, it not only disorients them but in close quarters combat they'll end up shooting each other more than the enemy (nightvision probably wouldn't work too well either).

Oh stop it, you to. What the hell are you saying anyway ? Lemme guess...

I like the idea of being able to complete objectives in several different ways. Deus ex implemented this quite well. Maybe Doom 3 can do it in a simpler way, without drastically altering the game experience.

It would be a nice change. Deus Ex is one of the few games that I replayed several times and actually found new stuff everytime. DooM3 is gonna be flooded with mods and user levels, after all, imagine how many members of the other communities will arrive to mod in that marvelous engine.

Still, I'd like to see the game capable of being fun without the aid of mods...

Ok Zaldron here's some info...

lemme see:
1st byte = 229
2nd byte = 205
3rd byte = 173

yadda yadda.

I suppose most of you dont know how to do binary huh?

first number in sequence standas for a value of 128, 2nd = one set of 64, 3rd = one set of 32, and keep dividing until you reach the eighth number wich will equal a set of one.

00000001 means zero sets of everything but one
00000010 means that the set of two's is switched on (this sequence equals two).

Theoreticially you could count up to infinity with these sets of numbers provided of course, you had an infinite number of them to use. It's kinda hard to believe that every number on the squares of two can be combined in any fasion as to make any number you could possibly want.

1st = 128
2nd = 64
3rd = 32
4th = 16
5th = 8
6th = 4
7th = 2
8th = 1

so, throw any number at me, something weird like 99, or 71, or 147.

99 is 01100011 (64+32+2+1)
71 is 01000111 (64+4+2+1)
147 is 10010011 (128+16+2+1)

Given lots and lots of bits to work with (more than eight), and continuing on the logic of two's, you xcan even calculate really big numbers.

14334 is 11100000000000 (8192+4096+2048+nothing else)
2001 is 11111010001 (1024+512+256+128+64+16+1)

so, in the year 11111010010 I really hope they release doom3 (ie, next year, be really nice to release it now but it would end up shitty).

Here they give us eight bits, combined they give you 256 possibilities (numbers from 0 to 255, zero counts as a number). Amusing is my knowledge is it not?
