Weapons?

Recommended Posts

Guest Cacohie Bunker

There should really be over 13 weapons in the New DOOM. Like come on, to me 9 weapons just isn't enough! There should be different guns as well, but I prefer to keep in the Original DOOM Weapons, cause they are so hard to put down!

Why that many weapons? It's a bit much, The original doom had Seven Weapons (Not Including Fist or Chainsaw -I don't count them as weapons) it didn't need anymore.

Later games use 9 or 10 for Variety.
Even If The newdoom has 9 weapons, at least 5 "Might" have
Secondary fire, therefore thats about 14 weapons.
That's more than enough.

I gotta ask you though, What Are they gonna be?

I mean You only really need 6 weapons any way.
Pistol
Shotgun (Double Barrel as Alt-Fire)(Like Half-Life)
Bullet Sprayer.
Explosive Device
Laser Style
BIG FUKCING GUN

Adding secondary fire to those is plenty.

Some of them should be done Dark Forces style - multi-function weapons that have a variety of attacks depending what key you press. I remember each weapon in Dark Forces had it's regular fire function and then a special one you got when you pressed Z.

They should go old-school NES style with some of the weapons, like offering upgrades. Games where you got some kinda bullet weapon, got an upgrade to make it to some kinda fire-bullet weapon, then upgrade the speed and damage and it's ammo just keeps getting more and more destructive, maybe to the point that it becomes a lazer weapon. That doesn't make logical sense, but I'm trying to remember how the weapons in Contra went. They were something like that.

Hi there!

Don't you think it would be cool if the player could use most of the worlds objects as a weapon?

For example: some knives from the kitchen, a pipe to squish some deamon's head, ... well, post some more cool suggestions =)

Ahhh yes I remember Contra, nice game. The weapon system was cool to still have that game. It went: you start at with the basic rifle, then there was spread fire, rapid fire, laser, Fire,
yup you gottem all. That game was the shit back in the good ol days.
/me goes to play Contra on his NES

The marine is in hell you dumb fucker, not in a kitchen. Christ! Besides what good is a knife against a daemon anyway???!!! I think, stan, that it would be a wise idea to go back to the test tube from whence you came and stop defiling this forum with your vomit.

This thing has been said over so much it's not even funny.

I agree with you on the amount of weapons.

I jsut hope they dont resort to stupid shit like UT-style weapons or something jsut to fill space. Every weapon should be useful in at least some fasion.

I wish they'd filanny get the game balance of the weapons fixed as well... rocketlaunchers ahve been heavily unbalanced ever since doom (it is unbalanced for DM). I belive quake2 was the worst instance... it shoots pretty fast (rate of fire), does lots of damage, and does little damage to you if fired point blank but lots of damage to the opponent (Q2 only)... what else definition is there for an unbalanced weapon? (esp. since ammo is pretty common).

I dont mind weapons like the railgun as much if they'd make it to where you cant be killed instantly with it if you're "fresh" in the game (100 health, no armor)... and they need to put a limit on how many enemies it can go through.

My list:
1 - hTh, Knife, chainsword, etc. (what melee weapon would actually make sense in space?, definatly not a chainsaw)

2 - Field Pistol (10mm caseless)

2 - Arm Rifle (8mm rifle, slower than pistol but more accurate and 2x the damage)

3 - Field Rifle (20mm caseless, like the similar model in "Judge Dredd")

3 - Flechette Rifle (25mm explosive shells)

4 - Submachinegun (10mm, moderate fire rate)

4 - Assault Rifle (8mm Rifle, moderate fire rate)

5 - Heavy Assault Cannon (10mm, triple barrel minigun)

6 - Explosives Launcher (25mm explsoive shells, fired as either projectile, grenades, or proximity blast [like a mine])

7 - RippFire Blaster (4mm pins, fired white hot so they are AP, looks like the hyperblaster from Q2).

8 - Plasma Rifle (looks more refined than doom's, but functional unlike Q3's... two fire modes: normal plasma bolts or large plasma blasts which do lots of damage)

9 - Railgun (4mm pins, fires these pins at high velocity, this is a fully-automatic weapon and could kill someone pretty fast but not like Q2's did).

0 - BFG-like weapon (3 modes, fires plasma bolts twice as fast as plasma rifle does, charges to fire a big blast, or explodes [you lose it and run!]).

Jezus the-widow-maker, at least read what he is getting at before accusing him of being a dumb fucker- I thought you were a chutney ferret at one point, and my hunch that you are in fact a shit shoveller has been re awakened by your imaturity. Besides, don't call some one a dumb fucker, call them something inventive like a dumb fucker, or a dumb fucker, or an dumb fucker or something!

Fairly well said, but IMO theres nothing wrong having a wide range of weapons. However I can agree with the current lack of balence in FPS's. I think there should be many weapons and verations but not all meant to be found at once. What i mean is maybe there would be 25 weapons, variations, and upgrades, however theres no set amount to how many are ment to be found. Obviously some weapons like the shotgun and other "nessesities"
will be easily found, but then there could also be others hidden maybe not meant to be found the first time around. Also the idea thats been around a great many times about set amounts of carring space could limit what weapons you keep and which you leave. I don't feel i was able to fully convay my point but you get the basic idea.

flechettes are basically small nails shot from a gun.

they don't explode.

And i might add that they are banned by international war treaties because they have the tendency to fragment into at least four pieces once entering the body. Causes unbelieveable amounts of internal damage for such a small projectile.

...and the whole purpose of the railgun is to have an extremely dense mass, traveling at an extremely high velocity

using the equation K.E.= 1/2*m*v*v
m=mass
v=velocity
K.E.=kinetic energy

This produces a shitload of kinetic energy which is then transferred to the object it hits, causing massive damage.

The weapons feel more like insane artifacts than anything else. It works for MP, but I really hated those guns in Unreal SP mode... I kinda used the sniper rifle all the time.

yeah like grab one of those stakes with dead bodies on it and slide the body off if it and prod or hit demons with it...or a candelabra or (however you spell it) or with one of those torches i dunno i hope id gets a bit on the inventive side with that

1) think about it, we're fighting demons here, not humans... and the flechettes i was talking aobut are hollow and filled with explosives and propellant.

2) Railguns are meant to penetrate armor and kill whatever is inside that dense shell. I jsut dont like the idea of a wepaons with infinite range, extreme accuracy, and extreme damage. If you make it into a chaingun that does double damage and ahs infinite range it makes gameplay more enjoyable in DM.

oh, forgot that it was 1/2*m*v*v, thot it was m*v*v

and not all the kinetic energy is transferred intot he object if it goes straight thorugh it... only some of the kinetic energy.

im still a firm beleiver that the plasam rifle is a more formidable weapon than the railgun :)

/me agrees wholeheartedly with you
Definetly more than 9 weapons. The Plasma Rifle and Chaingun and such are fun, but Doom really needs more than just 9 weapons. Perchance some, but not all, of the guns should have alt-fire. That would make it seem like there were really more than 13 weapons.

Take a chapter our of RPG's.

ie, A flame thrower, which can't hurt lava/fire based monsters.
a vapor enemy which can't be hurt by normal bullets (you can do that with dehacked, have to kill it with a rocket/bfg explosion).. ya know

the idea is a HUGE slug, not ur little 4mm toothpicks.

the 4mm would qualify as a flechette? Get what i'm saying?

By the way...the nailgn & super nailgun in Q1 were both flechette guns. The whole point of them is so they can fragment inside a person's body, not attempt to blow them up with .5 OZ of gunpowder.

The Q1 nailguns were really bad as flechette guns if they were them... becasue the damn things go so slow you can see um.

Wouldn't it be nicer to fragment a person's BODY rather than fragemntign metal inside it? Sure as hell fixes the problem better than a hollow metal dart does.

And the reason why i called them flechettes int he first place was the fact that they aren't simply a 4mm bullet, but a 4mm dart of sorts (ie, it's about 8x as long as it is wide).

And, if you ahvent caught the drift yet, the 25mm explosive slugs are supposed to be the doom3 equivalent of rockets :) [dumbass].
I dont want rockets in doom3 to be capable of killing the player with one hit unless he's at least a little hurt.
