Doom 64's music in mods.

Recommended Posts

Im planning to use Doom64's music for Innocence X.
There is however a rule againts using mp3s and Oggs that were not made for the project.
Now Mr. Hodges has stated in the forums that he is allowing people to use his tracks.
Im just not sure if a simple statement in a thread would fly with the maintainers and allow my mod to be accepted.
Now for my mod, im using lower quality ogg version than the ones found on mr. Hodges' store.

I've placed my concern on IRC but wanted to know other peoples stance.

Is it allowed or are PSX/Doom64 music off limits for upload on idgames?

I don't know the answer to this, but considering he charges for them to be downloaded, I doubt he would be happy for anyone to distribute them freely.

It might be wise to contact him? He's active on here.

Well I read it as just the brand new stuff he's making:

"I will do another 5 tracks from scratch that are in the same genre so folks doing mods will have a few new ones to include"

Makes no sense that he sells the music on his site, but allows free distribution of it. Or is it more of a donation thing?

I bought both PSX and 64 soundtracks, but personally I prefer to listen to an old rip from the PSX game version. I think it sounds better. Not quality wise, just some of the samples are more obvious and the track length loops better.

I went a head and send aubrey a PM.
I got his song legitimately in his store.
But Im gonna use low quality rips, I found on the net years ago, for the mod.

I got low quality PSX rips many many years ago and i actually prefer those as they loop better and probably due to some hardware limitations of the PSX, they have different levels for certain sounds, which i actually prefer.

I think this might be what Aubrey is addressing with the new release.

I like the low quality rips because they sound classic :).
But I wanted to make sure I was getting the tracks legitimatly so I went ahead and purchased the soundtrack then use rips on the mod.

You have my permission to use the tracks in your mods. Good luck with it!
