These are neat stats, but I suspect that 100 number is misleading. Nonetheless I'm interested to know if you can get number of UNIQUE players that connected?

The number denotes number of unique usernames. Figuring out unique players would be borderline impossible if you want to be sure about 100% accuracy. It would include comparing IP addresses with the added difficulty that different IP address doesn't have to mean different player and the same IP address doesn't have to mean the same player.

I consider the current way of calculation sufficient enough since from my long-lasting observation and educated (I hope) guess I believe the number of players that connect during one session with multiple usernames is not significant.

Anyway, the open beta of new Doom appear to have hurt our turnout last night quite remarkably. 100 is actually a pretty low number for TNS as our average for this year is over 130 with the highest turnout overall being 239 - that was for a session that refused to end on Friday morning and lasted for 30 hours, though :)

Oh so it does identify at least some degree of uniqueness. I am definitely impressed! Even if it's only unique player names it's probably still likely a >90% unique player number, and that's amazing for an event.

ZDaemon has had a mandatory registration system for several years now; there is no universal/default "player" account.
