Kampy Posted August 25, 2002 I used to play doom2 for a long time and I just love that map. Nowadays I dont play Doom2 anymore... I think just because none of my friends do so. But I still play a lot of Half-Life. So, for those of you who like Half-Life and Dwango5's MAP01 here is my remake: kampys-stuff.de/maps/hl_entryway.zip Here are some screens: http://www.kampys-stuff.de/bilder/entry1.jpg I tried to use textures which Ive made from doom screenshots http://www.kampys-stuff.de/bilder/entry2.jpg sometimes this was not possible so I drew some myself(ceilling/floor) http://www.kampys-stuff.de/bilder/entry3.jpg MAXIMUM image dimensions are 640x480. This means that image can be no more than 640 pixels wide AND the image can be no more than 480 pixels high. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted August 25, 2002 Looks pretty cool. To bad I don't own Half-Life... 0 Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted August 25, 2002 You could have saved yourself a lot of time and effort and just extracted the graphics straight from doom2.wad... :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Kampy Posted August 25, 2002 didnt know how - didnt have a the right program I guess. But it was not that hard I just had to stand in front of the wall make a screenshot, change the size and put it into the HL.wad 0 Share this post Link to post

But it was not that hard I just had to stand in front of the wall make a screenshot, change the size and put it into the HL.wad but it shows rather painfully in the screenshots, as the walls do not blur correctly from the bilinear filtering when you get close to them - they stay too blocky. xwe and wintex can help you in your quest i believe 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted August 25, 2002 Maybe you should use freedoom textures instead... (and see what I posted in the other HL mod thread). 0 Share this post Link to post
999cop Posted August 25, 2002 Would that be legal if you use textures from other id-developed games (Quake series, Hexen(?), Rtcw(?)) in Doom? 0 Share this post Link to post
Draconio Posted August 26, 2002 No. It's done anyway (even by the Gothic DM crew) but is still technically illegal. 0 Share this post Link to post
999cop Posted August 26, 2002 There were several sound effects from Unreal Tournament distributed to Dark7.wad, does that count as illegal also? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted August 26, 2002 999cop, yeah... but there's also a difference in degree; one resource or two is one thing, but using a whole bunch of resources from one company's game in an addon for another is pretty much the 1st thing a company would disallow. 0 Share this post Link to post
Astewart41 Posted August 26, 2002 Kampy said:well not more blocky than at doom ^_^ Doom2 didn't use mipmapping. What he's talking about is how the textures seem to have a kind of "film" tile on them, which means the further away you get, the more it seems to be a synthetic texture. You should use the blend brush in Wally combined with ReMip Deluxe when doing this. (ReMip deluxe is F11) 0 Share this post Link to post
Kampy Posted August 26, 2002 Im not so sure I know what you mean - but I dont think the textures look bad - they are alright I think. well the whole map is not that good because its a doom map and not a HL map and Ive made loads of better maps - it was more like a test. Therefore the textures are fine i think. 0 Share this post Link to post

They are stuck with Valve textures. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kampy Posted August 27, 2002 you can easily make those kind of textures with paint and wally - look at the textures (floor/walls) on that screen: http://www.kampys-stuff.de/bilder/arena.jpg I wouldnt use valve textures in that mod - Id make me new ones. OH BOY, IF I HAD READ THE FAQ I WOULD KNOW THAT IMAGES CANNOT BE BIGGER THAN 640x480! 0 Share this post Link to post
boris Posted August 27, 2002 Heh, the mods are pretty friendly nowadays. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kampy Posted August 30, 2002 seems like the mod doesnt need more mappers ^_^ nevermind :P to the forum admin ^_^ of course I know that the pictures may not be bigger than these few pixels but dont think I make all the screenshots new just for this forum ^_^ These screenshots are quite old - I will not download them from my server and change their size just to be allowed to post them here ^.^ its fully okay if theres a link to the pic like you handled it ^_^ 0 Share this post Link to post
