islandboy5150 Posted August 28, 2002 Hey I'm new to this and I've got a question that may seem stupid, but here goes... I got a DOOM95 CD and when I play it, the music sounds like it is playing real fast, like a record on 78rpm instead of 45. I am running Windows ME on a 2001 E-machine/633/256k/10G/48X CD Rom. Anyone out there had this problem and what do I do to fix it, the music just sounds stupid it plays so fast. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted August 28, 2002 There is your problem...you're using DooM 95. Use Eternity instead. 0 Share this post Link to post
dsm Posted August 28, 2002 In other words: Get a source port. My suggestion is that you get more than one source port to try out - pick the one you like the best and keep the others for wads that require a specific port. ZDoom - has a lot of neato features that can be turned off if you don't like them. JDoom - is first class opengl eyecandy. PRBoom - is the most "Vanilla Doom"-like port and is good if you prefer Doom to play like in the old days. These are the ones that I have. Dunno about the others. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted August 28, 2002 Read the FAQ, the last section deals with 9 popular source ports. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted August 28, 2002 The FAQ could use a hyperlinked index at the top. At the moment it looks like you're getting a Microsoft product's EULA thrown in your face. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted August 28, 2002 What is the "DOOM95 CD"? Isn't "doom95" or doom95.zip the shareware? 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted August 28, 2002 All recent releases of Doom have come on CD with Doom 95 instead of the DOS executable. 0 Share this post Link to post
The Ultimate DooMer Posted August 28, 2002 If you want ZDoom, this is the latest version, not available from the main ZDoom page (as it's still a beta). 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted August 28, 2002 1.23.33 is not the latest beta. There are unofficial version 2:s. 0 Share this post Link to post

Just open it up and look for Doom CD. Second off, yes it is either Doom.exe or Doom2.exe depending on which disc you (Doom or Doom2 DUH). 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted August 28, 2002 I just checked my Doom 2 CD and found 'xxdoom2.exe'. I stand corrected. 0 Share this post Link to post

Woolie Wool Posted August 28, 2002 Some info on a few other ports: Legacy: Allows you to play music from a CD and gives you lots of cool error messages :P ZDOOMGL: Gives you all of the features of ZDOOM with OpenGL glitter that is not quite as stunning as JDOON's. Desktop DOOM: Plays DOOM in a window and supports splitscreen multiplayer EDGE: Its DDF technology goes above and beyond what can be done with DeHackEd Vavoom: It has dynamic lighting and can be used with DOOM, Heretic or Hexen. 0 Share this post Link to post

myk Posted August 29, 2002 I can believe it offers doom95 as the main EXE, but I mean, the CD is actually called "DOOM 95"? I don't call a hat a glove, so I'm asking. The online version of Final DOOM I got a while back (before GT Interactive was swallowed by Activision, or something like that) included the corresponding doom2.exe. The Collectors edition does not include DOS EXEs, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
