Ready to be freaked out by a vision of the future? (Weird video)

Recommended Posts

For me advanced technologies are currently sort of ruined by the fact that they are being used by humans that aren't "advanced" at all. In my mind in the future not only we should have tons of amazing inventions, but people should be awesome as well. They should look reasonably pretty, be quite intelligent, tolerant, friendly and helpful to other people, etc. But right now when I leave the cyberspace and go to the street to buy some food or whatever, I see my overweight neighbor walking his dog that shits on the grass, I see someone pissing in a corner because there are no free public toilets nearby, I see confused teenagers fighting each other in a desperate attempt to prove something to themselves, I see a tired lady at the shop trying to sell me substandard potatoes even though she has much nicer ones in the back, I hear about crime and corruption in the country... This disparity really bugs me, it makes the whole world look kind of ridiculous. Maybe it only exists in crappy places like Russia.

I think the "overstimulating" part was largely because of the vivid bright colors used on everything. If the "virtual object" colors blended with colors of the "reality" and/or were mostly desaturated, the whole thing would be a lot more bearable.

Still, I don't think I'd want to spend my daily life in a nonstop "augmented reality" mode.

The "hacking attack" part was somewhat implausible.

I blame doomvaultboy for this one.

Jokes aside, if one day we come to use those interfaces I hope open source/free software will still be strong, because I don't really like the idea of having a shady corporation on my eyes 24/7. Also, I'll probably simulate keyboard+mouse controls to play Doom anywhere/anytime with this.

Reminds me of this guy and his scenes in Serial Experiments Lain. Heck, it reminds me of the whole series to a degree, and that's sorta creepy.

It also looks like it'd be a lot easier to trip over things obscured by advertising.

Nah, I don't want those ads and tracking.

That's odd, I didn't encounter anything like that.

Well that's what happens when I follow the vimeo link with the Links-2 browser. I tried to use youtube-dl on that URL, but no luck:
ERROR: unable to download video data: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden
Anyway I thought it was funny that a movie about ads overload can't be watched without javascript browser.

The future looks like shit.

Seconded. If augmented reality is little more than having the Web's worst aspects force-fed into your cerebral cortex, I'll give it a miss.

Heh - TV test pattern at around the 4 minute mark. Haven't seen one of those for ages.

I would hate to have my mind connected to the Internet, then some jabroni could connect to me

Shit would be great for long distance sex and shit (you could fuck people with your MIND), but other than that brain connections sound like a bad idea

It's not the future this world needs. It's the one it deserves.

I have this idea in my head about a story I would like to write some day, where (in the future) everyone wears these glasses and the streets are filled with 'default' advertisement signs and everyone sees there whatever is within each person's interests. It's like all interaction with the world is tailored regarding individual interests. It could also derive into movies playing in theaters (every person in the audience might be watching a different movie), shows on tv, shows on radio receivers, etc. And there's this 'renegade force' fighting to get back to a world where things happen collectively and all accept a little bit of what others like to keep things social and together, if you catch my drift.
I'll write it all someday. But I see some ideas just pop up no matter what, someone else must have already thought of this, and might take it even further in the near future.

I remember this thread where ppl discussed interfaces and brain implants to paralize people and have them 'day-dream' an entertainment stream... I thought my idea was better. :D

just my two bits, nobody has to care.

We'd already be colonizing and exploring the stars if it weren't for the entire leftist mindset and absurd tolerance of luddites and their religions. Innovators today are shunned at an early age, brains pre-packaged and boxed to fit a certain social-mould. The potential in humans is diluted from existing in a world of total cultural dissolution.

As T. Kaczynski said in 'Industrial Society and it's Future': Imagine a world where humans are subjected to the most insufferable conditions of the spirit and mind imaginable; yet daily are fed drugs to dull the symptoms... alcohol, reality TV, youtube, video games, cosmetics, porn on demand, boundless amounts of useless information... which of course, we're all shamelessly proponents of.

Had Romantic-era, or even Renaissance Europe (Germany in particular) been allowed to flower and survive I guarantee you Man would be far, far more ahead than we are today. They were technological masters, and their designs were built for the test of time. Literature, philosophy, the arts and technology all of it beyond it's time. All we have now are remnants, what a waste....

Technology of convenience in the age of self-identification... it's what we're left with folks.

All you need to do is look at space...how much progress has been made in the 47 years since the moon landings? Whatever it may be, it's a mere fraction of the progress made in the 10 years before it.

And then you have stuff like the hyperloop...which is the sort of thing that would thrive in the environment you quoted, but in reality it's a fledgeling project that would probably end up being shut down if it threatened to compete with the airlines. Naturally there are exceptions (such as computers and the internet) but I get the impression that ground-breaking technology just doesn't get the attention or resources it used to.

The human race (or more precisely those in charge of it) is only interested in control and competition, instead of advancement and exploration. (otherwise we'd be talking about space tourism and underwater colonies instead of pseudo-religious warfare and secret trade deals)

This is one of more optimistic, I dare say utopian visions of the future. It is already there in some regards, and it will certainly be limited to only very narrow set of people and places.

While slightly disgusted by it, I'd still be happy if that is our future.

Renaissance

If the great Renaissance thinkers saw the technology we have today, they would have knocked over chairs and tables getting to it. Without current technology, er, "drugs" as you call it, millions of books and resources wouldn't have been allowed to flower and survive, communication would still take days, and you wouldn't be able to shitpost.

On another note. Just because I can teleport to my phone a picture of Maria Ozawa's massive knockers, that, when I requested them, launched from a web server, bounced off satellites in outer space, and transmitted through radio waves in less than 10 seconds - that's proof of an ill society? I beg to differ, sir! Instead of nudes, it could have been a resume, or scientific research data. And it also doesn't mean we can't use it to say, improve people's quality of life, which is actually what I do with smartphone technology on my day job!

As I push "submit reply" on a small device inspired by Star Trek, with transistors so numerous that it would take 100s of thousands of apollo space modules to match, my post goes through untold miles of fiberoptic cables, routed to a server that exists everywhere yet nowhere, and written as HTML for you to look at.

But we can't play golf on the moon yet, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't you guys think the same things were said about the printing press? the slide rule? the calculator? The personal computer? That's a serious question.
