What does Doomworld think of Rainmeter?

Recommended Posts

If some of you don't know what this is, basically it's a little thing you can download that'll add "widgets" to your desktop. If you still don't know what I mean, here's a screenshot of it:

It also allows you to change the size of some of the widgets, in case if you wanna save space on your desktop. To me it's something good to use.

inb4 people think this is just some advertisement

Desktop have to stay clean, free of icons, widgets and annoying things. Everything else should be keep on their respective folders, Documents, Pictures, Videos, Games, etc.

BOth my Desktop and PC look the same...

It's funny how when everything is right with the world I look at shots like this like, "oh God yes; clean-computer-desktop-porn," but when I'm in between computers I see that shot and shed one manly tear for all the stuff I lost. Thinking mostly of stuff not easily/typically backed-up, like configs, though how many people really back up their desktop icons too? Heh.

Honestly I wanna have a not so cluttered BUT at the same time, utilized desktop. I try and keep as much clean space as possible but I want quick access to most stuff in just two clicks. That and it makes loading Doom WADs a lot faster.

You guys are calling those clean desktops? Here's what a real clean desktop actually looks like:

Looks pretty much the same on all my computers, except for different wallpapers/OSes.

To get back on topic, I did use Rainmeter for a while like 10 years ago. I remember it was quite good at what it does.

Mine is pretty much like that except for the extra "stuff" folder I have, not to mention a different wallpaper.

Not as pristine as it should be, but I'm a lazy fuck and need desktop links.

Ever wondered what a clean desktop doesn't look like? Well, here is mine.

My roommate downloaded this software 6 years ago. He moved on to another computer he built. As far as I know he liked the software. Kinda in that transition period when smart phones weren't ubiquitous and essential information like weather and atmohpheric pressure was not something Microsoft was not interested in showing off on the desktop because you know, windows, not Windows.

Obsessive-compulsive in cleanliness much?

Used to be a big fan of HoverDesk, but it felt like too much effort when you had to start changing stuff around. You install new programs and games, so you want to add new links, so it needed redesigning and you had to start moving stuff around because there wasn't space in your current layout. I swear I spent more time tweaking the layout than I did using it.

My desktop is covered by a few layers of active windows 99.99% of the time, so putting anything there is kind of useless to me. Start menu/taskbar or bust.

I'm a big fan of rainmeter. Been using it for ages. This is my current desktop setup. The skin is Dark Glass but the icons and cursor are custom edits.

idk tbh I have the latest version 3.3.2 r2609 64-bit (May 16 2016) and am running it on
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (build 7601) Service Pack 1. How far this is compatible with Win 10 is unknown to me. I guess it would work.
