What are some well-known vertical levels with hardly any horizontal space?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking kind of like the claustrophobia one... Skyscrape IV I think it's called. Haven't really seen anything else like that that's a whole level, just big horizontal levels with tallish buildings.

Ummm... there isn't even any height change in those maps. Letalone anywhere you can actually move to.

This is the sort of thing that's virtually impossible to do well in the Doom engine and probably not very fun and interesting to replicate in ZDoom, so I doubt you'll find much. The Quake 1 community has made lots of good vertical maps, if you're interested in that game.

Also, have you played Xaser's map from 50 Shades of Graytall? It's not exactly tiny, but it does maximize vertical space in a neat way to make the level feel a lot bigger.

Maybe Map 06 of Sunder, Grinder? It's cramped as hell horizontally with a ton of z-axis play.

At least one of the maps had lifts, but yeah, that's a pretty extreme example.
