JavaGuy Posted September 22, 2002 I've decided to make a collection of first person games for the computer. If anyone can make a list of all the ones they know so I can find em, that's be cool. Just don't say something "Doom" and "Ultimate Doom" or "Duke Nukem: Atomic Edition" or "Duke 3d". I'd just collect the one with the extra episode rather than both. Thanks, and have a nice day. 0 Share this post Link to post
Draconio Posted September 22, 2002 FPS that I've played (not necessarily ones you'd want, mind you): Doom Doom 2 Heretic Hexen Hexen 2 Strife Rise of the Triad Quake Half-Life Wolfenstein 3D Spear of Destiny Duke Nukem 3D Shadow Warrior Corridor 7 Ken's Labyrinth 0 Share this post Link to post
Use Posted September 23, 2002 Here are some that I've played (in no paticular order) Heretic Hexen Hexen2 Quake3 Team Arena Quake (all) Doom (all) Deus Ex Unreal Unreal Tournament Blood Shadow Warrior (played just a weee bit) No One Lives Forever Powerslave Rise of the Triad Serious Sam (all) Thief (all..this count as a shooter?) System Shock (all) Blakestone Wolf3d (all, including RTCW) Medal of Honor (all) Half-Life 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted September 23, 2002 Ultima Underworld, it did jumping/lighting/slopes a year before Wolfenstein 3D was released and is a pretty good game too. God bless that Warren Spector. 0 Share this post Link to post
IMJack Posted September 23, 2002 Use3D's list, plus: Dark Forces (all, including Jedi Knight series) Shogo: Mobile Armor Division Sin Renegade Redneck Rampage series If you're willing to broaden the definition of FPS a tad, you can stick the Descent series in there as well. 0 Share this post Link to post
spank Posted September 23, 2002 You name it, I've played it. Especially if it's old. 0 Share this post Link to post
pickle965 Posted September 23, 2002 I would count Decent, 'cept it looks like I've got work ahead of me as it is. I admit most of them will be burned/ripped, but it'll be a challenge finding downloads that work. 0 Share this post Link to post

Captain Red Posted September 23, 2002 aside from what's already been said: SYSTEM SHOCK & SYSTEM SHOCK II * Aliens Vs Predator and Aliens Vs Predator II * heads will roll if they're absent from any "best of" list mmnpsrsoskl said Outlaws. That game was awesome. Amen. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted September 23, 2002 These are all the ones that I can remember (not necessarily liked or even played): Wolfenstein Doom Doom 2 Final Doom Heretic Hexen Hexen - Deathkings of the Dark Citadel Hexen 2 Hexen 2 - Portal of Praevus Blood Blood 2 Shadow Warrior ROTT Strife Jedi Knight Quake Quake 2 Star Trek Elite Force Duke Nukem Return to Castle Wolfenstein Half Life Doom 3 (when it's released) Daikatana Red Faction Faceball 2000 for the SNES (it may not be for the PC, but it still counts as one) Sin MDK ? Alice ? Unreal Serious Sam Redneck Rampage Aliens vs. Predator Aliens vs. Predator 2 Soldier of Fortune Soldier of Fortune 2 Rainbow Six Well, these are all I could come up with right now. I probably missed a few obvious ones. As for Descent, I tend to consider those more of the flight simulator type games for some odd reason. 0 Share this post Link to post
Draconio Posted September 23, 2002 Descent makes its own genre, IMHO. Pity it doesn't work too well on this computer (damn sound incompatibilities grrrr >_< ) 0 Share this post Link to post
dsm Posted September 23, 2002 My top-ten list of non-Doom FPS I have played (best top, worst bottom): Return to Castle Wolfenstein Quake 2 HeXen Half Life Quake Strife Heretic Duke Nukem 3d Unreal Quake 3 Arena 0 Share this post Link to post
Little Faith Posted September 23, 2002 A pair of old ones: Marathon! (I remember a heated thread about this one) Radix (a half-assed Descent clone with crap enemies but interesting architechture, keeps reminding me of Evilution in some way) Fortress of Dr. Radiaki (lame wolfenstein clone from the Doom2 era) Quarantine (one of the screwiest FPS'es around and actually pretty neat) CyClones (another doomed FPS from the Doom2 era) Body Count (a boring too late Wolfenstein clone with cheesy terrorist enemies, kinda like ROTT without the fun bits) 0 Share this post Link to post

Little Faith Posted September 23, 2002 I originally only had a pair in mind. 0 Share this post Link to post
GS-1719 Posted September 23, 2002 Marathon was a classic. Don't forget Kingpin in any of these lists either. 0 Share this post Link to post
spank Posted September 23, 2002 Marathon is a metaphysical experience! 0 Share this post Link to post

Woolie Wool Posted September 24, 2002 Nitemare 3D is a shitty FPS from 1994 with shitty graphics and shitty gameplay and shitty everything else. The shitty company that makes this game charges THIRTY-ONE FUCKING DOLLARS for the full version. Woolie Wool Posted September 24, 2002 Little Faith said:Oh, you forgot to mention the horribly choppy framerate and unresponsive controls. The framerate wasn't choppy in the DOS version on my old 486DX2/66 many years ago. I remember the controls. They were worse than Wolf 3-D's. How bad is that? Here's a hint: in Wolf 3-D, you can't move forward while turning or strafing. You can pivot in place and move sideways, but you can't straferun. The strafe button is a toggle mapped to the Alt key by default, so circle-strafing is impossible. When fighting the boss Otto Giftmacher in Wolfenstein 3-D, you must strafe to avoid each rocket he fires, turn to face him, and fire off a volley of bullets before he fires his next rocket and you must strafe again. Now just imagine the controls being ten times worse than that, and you have Nitemare 3D. 0 Share this post Link to post

Woolie Wool Posted September 24, 2002 Are you in some kind of fit of understatement? "Dumbest game in the universe" is not even close to describing it. In fact, not even Something Awful could say enough awful things about Nitemare 3D. This game is so bad that it defies description. /me mails a link to the official site to SA. 0 Share this post Link to post
