HyperLuke Posted February 27, 2017 I'm looking for short wads, preferably 1-10 levels long, since I don't have enough time to play every single 32 level megawad (I'm not saying they are bad, I just don't have much time for them in my busy life) Any Ideas? 0 Share this post Link to post
Xyzzу Posted February 27, 2017 The Serenity Trilogy, No Sleep for the Dead, The Aliens TC, just to name a few. 0 Share this post Link to post

Nate River Posted February 27, 2017 Short PWADs with still lots of action and a very nice visual style. The latter two are a bit more on the difficult side but that's what difficulty settings are for and they're well implemented. Violence Crumpets Swim With The Whales 0 Share this post Link to post

Jayextee Posted February 27, 2017 I'd recommend Distorted Memories, which isn't nearly as homage-y as the author claims. 0 Share this post Link to post
HyperLuke Posted February 27, 2017 Wow, thanks all, I really appreciate it. So far I have played No sleep for the dead and I really enjoyed it. Never thought I would get this many replies on my first post. 0 Share this post Link to post
42PercentHealth Posted February 27, 2017 There's an oldie by Skillsaw called Aeternum which is definitely worthwhile. The second level is somewhat linear for my taste, but it has some memorable fights it it. 0 Share this post Link to post
NuclearPotato Posted February 28, 2017 Speaking of Skillsaw, Vanguard is a little longer at 13 levels, but well worth it. Also squeaking over your level limit at 11 maps, but just as excellent, is UAC Ultra. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted February 28, 2017 My old list of episodes here might be of interest (the links don't function any more, but searching the archive for the name should work). Or you could just choose a megawad and play one episode of it (01-10, 11-20 or 21-30). Pretty much all good megawads are designed to be playable from pistol starts for each map. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted February 28, 2017 My Operation UAC Brutal Doom wad. 9 levels, short to medium levels and not particularly difficult if you know about BD grenades and head shots. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted March 4, 2017 If single maps count, I reccommend Area51, Doomcity, Hellrun and Bermuda. All fun and satisfying to play. A little while ago, I compiled Malcolm Sailor's CHORD wads into an easy to use pack. Maps 25-29, makes for a super challenging mini episode. Equinox is just over the limit at 13 maps, but you still might enjoy it. It was (and still is) a pretty darn unique Dooming experience, great for lovers of scifi-ish visuals. I've also made two small episodes (7 maps) a few years ago called TheDevilzWork and The Sinister Seven which you might enjoy. There's loads of great recommendations in this thread. Episodes of ~10 to ~15 maps = the perfect size for a wad, imo anyway :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted March 4, 2017 I actually realized after making the post but didn't end up correcting myself. Thinky brain no work good. 0 Share this post Link to post
HyperLuke Posted March 4, 2017 BTW I am also not looking for "re imaginings of the original doom episodes/levels", No Sleep for the Dead was good but too many doom 1 wads can start to feel boring, I already know where to find those types of wads. 0 Share this post Link to post

hex11 Posted March 8, 2017 There's quite a few Doom 1 episodes of typically 8-9 levels or less. Even the Doom 1 megawads are logically split up into episodes (obviously), and sometimes released separately. Some random stuff for Doom 2, from my notes: darkcvnt (Dark Covenant, 12 map episode from 1996) invaders (6 maps from 1995 w/ Heretic textures) istnbul (4 maps in Persian style architecture, must delete linedef #1331) marbfort (5 maps from 2010) - red key missing on MAP05 for skill 1-3 obtic11 (Obituary, need DeHackEd and NWT for patching exe & IWAD) odyssey2 (ODYSSEY.WAD, 1996 compilation of 5 levels of the ANCIENTS SERIES) purgatry (Purgatory, 5 fun maps from 1995) Another compilation, but I can't find the WAD, so have to rebuild it from the individual parts: http://www.doomwadstation.net/dlw/Doom/M_Reed_Stuff.txt And I guess some people did something similar with the Doom 2 Master Levels.
