DoodGuy Posted March 16, 2017 I've been kinda bored playing with Gz Doom and Zandronum, so I've moved over to PRBoom. First thing I want to do is get some good weapon replacements. Unfortunately, I am unable to find any, so I decided to ask you guys. 0 Share this post Link to post
42PercentHealth Posted March 16, 2017 What I'm hearing is "I'm kinda bored with the modern, fully customizeable source port for Doom, so I went to one that's barely more than vanilla. Any good mods for it?" Good luck! 0 Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted March 16, 2017 Try the stuff that comes with MBF, in the examples folder. 0 Share this post Link to post
fraggle Posted March 16, 2017 "Weapons mods" aren't really something that exists much outside of the *ZDoom world. It's possible you might find some stuff in idgames, but in general it's more a case of "find some TCs to play that also replace the weapons". You might give Twilight Warrior a try, for example. 0 Share this post Link to post

BigDickBzzrak Posted March 16, 2017 INSANED2.DEH, it's somewhere in the depths of /combos. Probably the pinnacle of DeHackEd modding. 0 Share this post Link to post
Angry Saint Posted March 16, 2017 when I'm bored of the usual doom weapons, I play with any from the 299 WEAPONS FOR DOOM" by Daniel. But I'm not sure it works with Prboom. 0 Share this post Link to post

Might I ask why you're specifically bored with the source port? Choosing PRBoom+, at least in the current day, has more to do with its combination of vanilla/boom compatibility and modern enhancements that don't affect gameplay (e.g., higher resolutions, HUD customization, demo manipulation, etc). More to the point, just about anything you can run in PrBoom+ should also run in GZDoom or Zandronum. I'd start by identifying what you find go no longer interesting about your current setup and see if you can find the answer in the same source port. As has been said, if you really care about being able to customize the weapons of the game, there are very few alternatives when it comes to switching ports. Doomsday has some novel add-ons which include weapon models: they're still the exact same weapons game-wise, so it only helps if you want reskins. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's just something about GZ Doom that feels underwhelming. Plus, with the recent 2.3 update the performance became horrid. Most of the stuff I see for GZ Doom are BD addons, Modern guns in Doom and D4 emulation. I'm looking for atleast skins that don't change gameplay. 0 Share this post Link to post

rehelekretep Posted March 17, 2017 prboom (and glboom if you have a dedicated gfx card) will definitely give you better performance than GZDoom, so that's a reason to switch. 0 Share this post Link to post
