Events in another map?

Recommended Posts

I wonder how I make a switch (or another trigger) affect something in another map? Can I do it without scripting?

Without scripting? No.

Furthermore, you have to set up your maps as hubs.

This has been used extensively in HEXEN.

Have you ever played Hexen? You can go back and forth between levels, and the game saves how you left a level, which monsters you killed, which buttons you pressed, etc. That's a hub.

Have you ever used MAPINFO before? Basically you put "cluster = 1" in each map definition, and when you declare that cluster, you just put "hub" in its own line.

Here's the documentation and an example:

Thank you very much! Now I know what a hub is, it's like the center of a wheel. My English is just too poor. Right now I am setting up a Hexen scenario/map and I figured out how to make different map contected to each other my using "save map into..." and it worked fine.

I am still trying to make a switch open a door by using a script. I asked about this in another topic... I just cannot find what I have done wrong.

It is easy to make a door by selecting the appropriate sector and pressing Shift+D. While this attaches linedef specials to the door linedefs and sets a trigger, they can be eliminated by setting the linedef specials to 0. From there just activate the door with a switch or crossing a linedef elsewhere.
