How to do smooth curves?

Recommended Posts

I mean those Ribbiks/Dobu Gabu Maru curves :D. Is there some shortcut in Doom Builder? Or better - is there a similar thing as 3D programs have - that I will make the editor area transparent and place some photo over that, and just draw over it? Would be cool. I wonder how some of you guys do it.

DB2 and GZDB have a "Curve Linedefs" feature that appears in the Linedefs menu on the top bar (or as an icon on the bar below it) when you're in Linedef mode.

Try turning off the grid, that's at least what i do. You can draw pretty smooth curves once you get the hang of it.

The Curve Linedef feature isn't ideal for those, if you want the curves to look nice -- ironically it's actually harder to make nice-looking stuff that way. Like tourniquet said, the 1-unit grid is where it's at. Ribbiks posted a video of his process some years ago. If you're looking for something to emulate while you practice, Stardate 20x6 has the same smooth curves but it's before Ribbiks was like 'my curves are going to be porn from now on', so you can learn from it without constantly feeling like you'll always be outclassed.

You can actually do this. I've never tried that for curves, but it might work. Go to Edit -> Grid and Backdrop Setup -> Select File. Only thing is I couldn't use jpgs for whatever reason. I pointed this out to someone the other day, so I had this silly image laying around.
