Net Neutrality Gets Screwed Over... Again

Remember how in January 2014 when this happened? Well, net neutrality is on the verge of doom again all thanks to Ajit Pai. It's scary to think that websites might start to get blocked in the future because of this, and I'm not too shocked that this is happening given the news we got about this earlier. Oh, and there's even this video of Ajit Pai himself laughing at people who are defending net neutrality on Twitter. What a "great" guy he is, huh?

So, they revert some regulations from 2015. I can't remember that the internet in the USA was in trouble before that date.

That highly depends on how such regulations are set up. But as things stand, most other countries have a healthy internet structure where competition between ISPs will ensure that nobody can ever afford to meter traffic for selected sources and such.

Please mind my stupidity. I wondered, if it will be also affected to those who using VPN and/or TOR? because these days I saw VPN companies aggressively promoting their stuff.

Google should definitely stop considering site response speed as a factor for ranking, given it will no longer be an accurate reflection of a site's investment into technology and connection bandwidth, and more of their ability or not to pay exorbitant ransom and "protection" fees to every ISP.

Whether it's net neutrality or the free and open Internet, the US is not the only place where the Internet under attack.

I feel like governments all over the world want to regulate the Internet in order to push their political agenda. It can be so that big corporations make more money or putting charges against you if you don't agree with their neo-liberal or neo-conservative ideology. The conservative government in the U.K. banned some kinds of pornography, in Canada (where I live) they have voted for legislation that's going to make it impossible for people to share "there are only 2 genders" memes without being threatened with discrimination charges because it hurts some people's feeling. These are very ideologic and I think it's wrong to restrict what people can believe or can do. They are trying to suppress opinons of people who don't agree with them because they are convinced that somehow they are doing good. 

One of the reason that has made the Internet successful and profitable is the lack of legislation regarding what people can or can't do on the Internet. On Facebook, you can't say whatever you want, the admins may block your access to your account if you share many controversial opinions that are not aligned with neo-liberalism. They are more concerned about what you say and think and trying to block you from expressing your opinions than removing kiddy porn and videos of people being killed from their awful website.

I actually don't know about much in US, but what I heard is that hate speech or tell other people to do bad stuff should be censored? China usually doesn't care about these unless you actually commit something bad, and BTW, they blacklisted every website they don't like. Probably shouldn't say too much since it's somewhat political to me.

And that was before last night...soon the calls for a Great Firewall of Britain will be ringing out through the halls of Westminster and beyond. Along with a massive swing back to the Tories after their unpopular manifesto launch...and you wonder why people question the reason that these attacks happen.
