Battle_Korbi Posted May 27, 2017 So yeah, I am wondering what do honest folk on Doomworld say about Gun Fu and in general mediums doused in stylish, unneccesary but aesthetically pleasing gunplay. I am currently perusing through Hong Kong Blood Operas again (used to be a big fan as a kid, am a fan now again), and I wonder what games should I play, movies I should watch, or basically what X i can Y after those (or right now) that emphasize themselves on super-stylish gun fights, "kicking around corners and exterminating mooks" or duels between gunslingers, whatever. Kinda like John Wick, but bit less realism and more hopping around and dashing. Platforms for comparison (and stuff I did already too much): -Max Payne (both games of course) -John Wick -Hardboiled -Matrix (the movies) -The Specialists (mod for hl1) bigger emphasis on combat style, not kill count :P 0 Share this post Link to post
ShoDemo Posted May 27, 2017 I think Desperado may fit your description. It is with Banderas as a protagonist. Just so you know, he opens a classic guitar case, it seems like a guitar case with a guitar inside, but the guitar is cut half and under it are hidden tons of uzis, pistols and other weapons. Another one might be Romeo must die, with Jet Li, though I saw more kung fu than guns in it. I don't know if these are considered good, but they are the ones I can remember from my childhood, when they used to play them sometimes on tv. 2 Share this post Link to post
ZALGO Posted May 27, 2017 I would watch Black Lagoon than if that's what you want for shooter animes. One of the characters is my favorite in the show and is just a badass. Also the action scenes are pretty good, It's just an action anime in the style of a more mature Cowboy Bebob than anything. Here's the Opening if you want. 1 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted May 27, 2017 The movie Equilibrium sounds right up your alley. 2 Share this post Link to post
Chow Yun Thin Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) This thread calls to me like an action hero through a windowpane of glass :p A Better Tomorrow The Killer Equilibrium (gun-fu is codified as a combat style) Double Action Boogaloo (more emphasis on stunts and scoring) Stranglehold (apparently takes place after Hard Boiled) Action Half-Life and Action Half-Life 2 (though sadly I haven't seen any servers) Wildweasel's Terrorists! mod 1 Share this post Link to post

I did watch the first two films, have yet to see the third. Planned to get Strangehold, played Double Action Boogaloo a lot (I think I still have it on Steam), and yet a lot of people recommend Action Half life (2) Seeing you are into HKBO as well, I recommend "The Opera" mod for hl1 (directly inspired by HKBO, its in the game, its in the name, whole thing is doused in it), altough no one plays it on multiplayer (I think, its a old mod afterall) the mook shootings are entertaining :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Albertoni Posted May 27, 2017 Any movie by Kurt Wimmer (he made Equilibrium). John Woo stuff can also work. This Max Payne 2 mod takes it to the extreme: http://www.moddb.com/mods/hall-of-mirrors And because I just love this: http://gunrave.ytmnd.com/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted May 27, 2017 Gunsmith Cats has some good gunplay in it (Anime). Shoot 'Em Up is nothing but one crazy action scene after another (Even if a chunk of it isn't terribly realistic). 0 Share this post Link to post
Pencil of Doom Posted May 27, 2017 Try Total Overdose, it's a shitload of fun, with a lot of action going on. Also Roberto Rodriguez's Mexico Trilogy is pretty good. 0 Share this post Link to post
