A WAD is a WAD. Why should IWADs be neglected? That makes no sense.

I gave my [incomplete] votes on both IWADs and PWADs. If, say, TNT: Evilution wasn't an IWAD, would you have accepted it then? Your method for labelling WADs seems flawed to me.

Scythe 2 holds onto top spot by the slenderest of margins! Along with Alien Vendetta, they enjoy a commanding lead over #3 (Scythe) and #4 (Ancient Aliens) which are also separated by a single point.

It makes perfect sense when talking about things the community made, as specified in the title of the thread.

EDIT: I suppose TNT technically counts since it wasn't made by id themselves. Regardless, this is a thread about pwads or iwads that are not a direct installment of the series. Adventures of Square for example would (I assume) be counted, as would Chex Quest..

EDIT 2: Ok, just checked the list, Square is on there so it would make sense for HacX to be counted as well, surely.

I read the title as "Doomworld Community: Top WADs of All Time" as if it's asking us, the community, what our favourite WADs are.

Would've been better if it was "Top Doomworld Community WADs of All Time" sounds like it's asking us to provide the best Doomworld WADs ever made.

It's a good thing IWADs are excluded and that fact needs repeating in every single "what's your favourite wad?" thread. Otherwise you get too many jokers putting Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 on their lists which is not in any way interesting.

I guess I'm a Skillsaw fanboy ;)  Talking about Stardate 20X6, I just like the weird purple palette and I really like purple. There are some more that I wanted to mention, but ten slots are ten slots.

01 - 10p. Sunder (for me, symbolises the perfecting of slaughter mapping, a style I don't even know ho to map for - evolving Doom mapping beyond my own meager skills)
02 - 06p. Nukemine (first entire episode that was on par with the iwads)
03 - 05p. Dante's Gate (since it kicks off Dr Sleep's episode, which was the first to really raise the bar on Doom mapping)
04 - 04p. Memento mori (just enjoyed the hell out of it, and picked up some very useful mapping tricks from, even though it hasn't aged all that well)
05 - 04p. Crucified Dreams (raising the bar on aesthetics)
06 - 03p. Dystopia 3 (technical mapping achievments, allround enjoyable)
07 - 03p. 2castles (an obscure map we used to multiplay a lot with Romero while at Ion Storm - a really original deathmatch concept. I've contacted Romero about locating this .wad but its author hasn't replied AFAIK)
08 - 03p. 300 lines (minimalism without any loss of ingenuiety)
09 - 03p. Swim With The Whales (broadened my horizon on what is possible to do aesthetically and composition wise - all those colors, tryly interdimensional feeling)
10 - 02p. The Unholy Trinity (first and best stab at a realistic map)
11 - 02p. Jägermörder (the most popular offering from one the mappers' visual styles that I most admire - plays well)
12 - 02p. Pirate Doom (originality executed flawlessly)
13 - 01p. Tourniquet (raising the bar on what's possible with visuals/aesthetics)
14 - 01p. Miasma (raising the bar on what's possible with visuals/aesthetics)
15 - 01p. Saturn X (cohesively and believably describes an alternative space port somewhere else in space besides the Mars we know and love)
16 - 01p. Eternity (for its time, a breakthrough in Doom storytelling)
17 - 01p. Demon Eclipse (very good use of additional monster types)
18 - 01p. GothicDM (raising the bar on aesthetics)
19 - 01p. Jpcp (wildly original and stamped with culture)
20 - 01p. Iconboss (most satisfying/appropriate final boss encounter I've seen in a Doom map)

Thanks for putting this together and tallying it, epic! Cool to see everybody's favs, from single levels to full megawads. I just randomly played Mangle which is an older map that was high on a list (number 82 total at the moment in here), pretty solid stuff, enjoyable oldschool map.
