Yes. When you start Dehacked for the first time, it makes a copy of doom(2).exe called doomhack.exe by default (changeable in the ini). Whenever you press W to Write your changes, it's doomhack.exe that is modified and your doom.exe is left untouched.

Nowadays, you might only ever want to press S to Save your changed data into a deh file for loading into a source port, but remember, dehacked was written before source ports, and so needed to write its own hacked EXE for you run. And that's where doomhack.exe came in.

FYI, it is still useful to Write to Doomhack.exe because the data in there is loaded the next time you start dehacked (so you can treat it as a quick save/load option). The only thing that isn't saved in the EXE is thing names, which are not part of the EXE, and only used internally by dehacked. You can set up a names file if you want to auto load changed names on startup.

heh, my copy of dehacked 2.0 had doom2.exe as the hacked .exe, and doom2bak.exe as the original.

cool, so I could like use Doomhack.exe as a MOD exe.

Yes. You can do that. That was the only way too run a Dehacked addon thing before source ports. IIRC.
