flubbernugget Posted September 6, 2017 I remember around 2010-ish that all of the best WAD'S used them incessantly to my disdain. Is this still a common trend? I haven't played a good deal of Doom in a while and don't really have the time to trough through maps, but I'm pretty curious. 0 Share this post Link to post
galileo31dos01 Posted September 6, 2017 Yes, a trend? I don't know, but a common thing, it is. Also instapop traps, fastpop, slowpop, popcorn, k-pop, pop ups, the Pope, etc. 3 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted September 6, 2017 (edited) Modern high-profile wads are certainly trying really hard to learn from their predecessor's flaws. Creation of these wads often involves intensive playtesting and tweaking anything that gets pointed out as negative. The resulting wads tend to mix various kinds of gameplay setups in decently balanced ways. So teleport traps will be present in some maps, but you can be sure that high effort had been put to minimize anything negative about them, and excessive usage would have counted as negative. 2 Share this post Link to post
Deadwing Posted September 6, 2017 Teleport traps are the ones tha the player gets teleported or the monsters? (or both?) 0 Share this post Link to post

flubbernugget Posted September 6, 2017 Off the top of my head, Scythe2 was pretty liberal/egregious with them. I liked Speed of Doom for being a lot better about it. 0 Share this post Link to post

TootsyBowl Posted September 6, 2017 Or maybe because teleport traps are kind of a pain to set up, especially with multiple destinations. 0 Share this post Link to post
