Pdda Posted October 17, 2017 Hi, I'm a total beginner to trying to play new wads for Doom 2. I'm using D-Fend reloaded to play Doom 2 and have downloaded Doom 2 Redux. How do I launch the D2REDUX.WAD in D-Fend? Thanks for any help 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted October 17, 2017 Doom 2 Redux is not compatible with the vanilla Doom engine. You need a Boom compatible source port like PrBoom-plus or GZDoom to play it. These source ports work on modern operating systems, no need for DOS. 0 Share this post Link to post
Pdda Posted October 17, 2017 Hi, thanks for the reply. Where can I get the source ports? Is there a charge? 0 Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted October 17, 2017 Of course on the internet and they are free. For example, gzdoom, zandronum, prboom+, chocolate doom. 0 Share this post Link to post
Pdda Posted October 17, 2017 Thanks, I downloaded gzdoom, unzipped it and copied D2REDUX.WAD into the directory. When I double clicked on gzdoom.exe I got a pop up window saying "execution could not continue". I'm attaching the pop up. Was I supposed to do a setup of gzdoom other than unzipping it? Appreciate your help. 0 Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted October 17, 2017 (edited) Do you have Doom II iwad? If not, copy and paste it in source port folder. Or if you don't have it, you can buy it on steam or other platform. Edited October 17, 2017 by Myst.Haruko : You can ignore last part, I should read more carefully before responding in forum. 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted October 17, 2017 (edited) He said "I'm using D-Fend reloaded to play Doom 2", which implies that he has Doom2.wad already. He just needs to put it somewhere that the source port can find it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted October 17, 2017 So, he needs copy and paste his iwad to gzdoom folder and problem should be solved. If not, I don't know what's next. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted October 17, 2017 That error literally tells you what to do. Just copy and paste an IWAD in beside gzdoom.exe. 0 Share this post Link to post
[McD] James Posted October 17, 2017 One of the best pieces of advice I can give to anyone just getting into playing Doom WADs is to download ZDL. It makes organising and running your Doom modifications so much easier. 2 Share this post Link to post
Pure Hellspawn Posted October 22, 2017 i remember using batch scripting in the good ol days. c:\doom\gzdoom\gzdoom.exe -iwad c:\doom\doom2.wad -file c:\doom\d2redux.wad 0 Share this post Link to post
