THMG Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) So, in honor of the now-lost, but infamous post that spawned this: Spoiler I'm proposing a community project: A Community Megawad, but each map is one *continuous room containing at least 150(One Hundred and Fifty) Hell Knights, and 1(One) Megasphere. REQUIREMENTS: At least 150 Hell Knights. A LIST OF ACCEPTABLE MONSTERS THAT ARE NOT HELL KNIGHTS IS BELOW. The player receiving the Megasphere must be part of normal gameplay. Interpret that how you will. The area the player can access must be one continuous area. No two maps may have the same theme. A maximum of 200 Monsters in your map. As long as there's 150 hell knights, I don't really care how many monsters there are. BUT THMG, WHAT THE HELL DOES "ONE CONTINUOUS AREA" MEAN? "Continuous" here means that the part of the map that the player can initially access must be one continuous open area, a list of things in a "gray area" which are and are not allowed is below: ACCEPTED: Scenery that the player cannot access (but which can have monsters and shootable switches in it) Monster Closets Setting monsters to ambush so all 150 hellknights aren't all set off as soon as the player fires a pistol shot 3D spaces Creating the illusion of one open space with portals and invisible teleporters is allowed. Areas only accessible with lifts! In lieu of doors, these are the next best thing, so if you want to make keys part of your map, this is the way to go! NOT ACCEPTED: No doors of any kind. If it'd divide your map into two rooms, it's not allowed. No small tunnels around doors to technically make it "one room". What monsters can I use? Now, monsters that aren't Hell Knights are allowed, but they should not be the main focus of your map.EDIT: After "careful consideration", I've decided that so long as there are 150 hell knights, I don't care what the "focus" of your map is. The ones that are allowed are as follows: All vanilla doom monsters, excepting Arachnotrons, Spider Masterminds, Pain Elementals, Lost Souls, and Cacodemons. Realm 667's Belphegor Realm 667's Cyber Baron Realm667's Hell Warrior Realm 667's Hierophant Realm667's Squire MORE TO COME VERY SOON, I'VE GOT STUFF TO DO BEFORE I CAN PUT THE WHOLE LIST TOGETHER Preferred, but Not Required, Map Format:GZDoom, UDMF ( If we're all doing the same basic concept, we may as well put ourselves under as few limits as possible. I want to see how far people can take this.) Furthermore, MAP31 must be accessible from MAP15, and MAP32 must be accessible from MAP31. Spoiler At the time I started this project, I had literally no idea how to work MAPINFO for GZDoom features. I do now, so we're under a lot less restrictions than we were originally. Any map format is accepted. THEME: Ideally, every map will have a different theme, meaning that I'd prefer that there'd only be one map of each theme. However, that is more than a bit limiting and could drive away potential mappers, so as such I'll allow maps with similar themes, so long as they do something to differentiate themselves from the other maps using the same base. Spoiler Theme: Every map must have a different "theme." This means there can only be one Techbase map, one Hell map, one Ice map, one Duke3D map, one Shadow Warrior map, etc. As such, no texture pack is off limits, just make sure to remove as many unused textures as you possibly can. Preferably, the ideal is that each map actually makes use of its theme (such as an ice/winter themed level making use of low friction floors), so try to pick one that you can think of interesting things to do with. THEME LIMITS: Custom music is allowed, so long as you're not violating any copyrights. Any texture pack is allowed, but make sure you remove unused textures. Custom sounds are allowed. Scripting is allowed. Custom actors are allowed. I'm sure I've forgotten something, so just ask in the thread if it isn't clear. SUBMISSION FORMAT: Please, in a .wad file, include in a .wad file named in the following format: Spoiler The format will have your filenames looking like this: TGMAP01 This entails: The first and last letters of your forum name/the name you wish to be credited by MAPXX, with XX being the two digit number of the map you're making (e.g. if I made two maps, the 2nd would be TGMAP02) Your map, with its mapname set to the format mentioned above All custom files used your name in a credits file inside the .wad Please,Please, PLEASE, make sure that your wad can run on its own without issue. All .wads will be compiled into a .pk3 for the release. OTHER RULES: 1 map per person is the goal, but collaboration is absolutely accepted and encouraged. Any and ALL skill levels are accepted. The only quality that matters is how good your map is. All maps must be completable from a pistol start Any texture pack is acceptable, just make sure you remove unused textures. No custom weapons, and no custom enemies that are not listed in the above list. Use of the Skulltag spheres and custom decorations are accepted. These rules aren't set in stone! If you have a particularly good idea, they can be bent. Have fun! This is by no means a "serious" project, so if you want to do something absurd, go for it. DEADLINE: January 31st, 2018, at the absolute latest. March 1st, 2018. bonnie Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Suggestions: Allow mappers to choose any mapping format they desire, and then list said format next to the mapper's name in the OP, so that people aren't forced to use zdoom for maps that they don't need to be (especially for demos) Maybe adjust the "continuous room" rule (if you want), as it's fairly easy to make almost any map be one continuous sound zone. I don't really know how you would improve it, but it just kinda seems way too open. The goal of this is to take the "150 hellknights in a room with a megasphere" concept and just go wild with it. 42PercentHealth Posted December 10, 2017 What's the due date on this? I'm currently working on a map for another project and don't want to start this one until it's done...
