What was your first ever video game?

Recommended Posts

Mine would have to have been Super Mario Land which came with a transparent Gameboy Pocket which I got for Christmas when I was somewhere between 7 to 9 years old. I loved the series of games which came after with Super Mario Land 2 to Wario Land and its own three sequels. Super Mario Land/Wario Land was pretty much a staple game series to me while growing up.

Pong. Bro used to repair electronic shit back in the day and he had a pong console. So we played the hell out of that.

Either Wolfenstein 3D, Jazz Jackrabbit, or Doom. Neither of my parents remember anymore and I was not even 3 years old back then so I don't remember either.

I don't actually know the title of the very first game I played.  It was something on the Atari 2600, and as I recall you played as a white knight going around different top-down rooms on a green background, where I quickly encountered and was killed by a black knight.  The obvious game for what I recall the style of it being would be Adventure, but unless my memory's really warped I don't think that was it since my recollection is that the player sprite had actual details, not just a box, and the black enemy was another knight, like a color swap of the player sprite, and the background of the starting areas at least was green.

I remember the second one more clearly and that was Wizards & Warriors on the NES.  My big bro and his friend were playing it and couldn't get past the bat boss, so they thought it would be hilarious to hand me the controller when I wandered in to see what they were up to.  Much to their amazement I beat the boss through pretty much dumb button mashing.  They wanted me to keep going after that but on the next level I fell into the lava and couldn't figure out how to get back out.

The original Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I used to be so good at it that I had schoolmates call me for help on it.

Crash Bandicoot 2.

4-year-old me could not have started gaming on a better note.

I think it was Pac-Man. I was very little and my parents took me to work for some reason, and sat me before the computer to give me something to do. Launched Pac-Man for me.

I don't remember if it was that time or one of the others when I (accidentally?) exited the game and wandered around in what was probably Norton Commander, stumbling onto other games. I remember one of them being Lost Vikings (couldn't understand how to progress), and another one being Doom. I managed to figure out how to shoot, but not how to open doors, so I was stuck at the beginning. But since it was E1M1 there was still plenty to look at.

And thus my mind was corrupted.

Born a few years before the demise of the socialistc and soviet controlled part of germany video games weren't a thing and i was probably too young anyways. But those machines still existed a while after the fall of the berlin wall and were my first glimpse of video games before the market got flooded by all the other fancy western stuff

I was too young to remember. Possibly it was the MS-DOS port of Golden Axe, which me with my brother managed to beat only many years later. We felt so badass... It was a great coop game.

I have a vivid memory of controlling Atomic Runner on Sega Mega Drive back in 1995(?) when I was 2 or 3.

The Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt double-cartridge on the NES.

Same here. Except one thing - I've played those games on different cartridges but at the same day :)

Wolfenstein 3D. I will never forget the moment that I found a folder called "WOLF3D" inside of that 386 computer.

Honorable mention goes to the game, which was located inside the folder "4F". It was a side-scroller, and I stamped on black snakes or something.

Good question. I remember the first games I ever played but I'm having a hard time figuring out which one was the actual #1. I think it was either a Super Mario game or Contra 6 on a NES.

On PC it's much easier to figure out since I only had a few games, the first one I played on one being Supaplex, followed by Death Rally, Network Q RAC Rally Championship, Doom II, and 1-2 more I can't remember.

Hmm, if I recall correctly, the first game I played was either Zoo Tycoon 2, Wolfenstein 3D, or Rise of Nations.

All pretty good tbh...

Oh No! More Lemmings! I could finish the first 20 levels and one of the later levels that featured just one super lemming.

The first game I ever saw was probably one of the Dizzy the Egg titles on a friend's Commodore 64.

But the first game I ever owned and played was Toki on the Amiga.  Still one of the best chiptune soundtracks ever, especially this first track.

I played Tower Toppler on grandpa's computer at his work. But I've never finished this game.

Later, I played Super Mario Bros. 1 on NES at my home.
