A history from the design perspective is probably more interesting, and it obviously should include all versions. But if you want to include a player perspective you can't leave out csdoom (heh, and from the design perspective you've got the flamewar that occurred at its birth.) Back then all sorts of people tried online doom, since we didn't know exactly what to expect. Even great players like Xenos and the #nightmare people played back then.
