Anything that tries to mimic every doom 2 map?

Recommended Posts

Like, they look like the original levels only updated to look modern.  Most remakes have levels that look nothing like the originals (e.g refueling base looking more like a quake 2-era remake)

Gradual monster and weapon progression would be good too

Project ReMap. It's WIP though, with only 4 maps completed so far.

Also Hell On The Earth Remastered. It's closer to vanilla Doom 2 maps than aforementioned Project ReMap, but definitely worth a look in my opinion.

And let us not forget about Knee-Deep In ZDoom (Yeah, I know it's Doom1, not Doom2, but it is awesome)

And Tormentor's remake of original E2M3 - The Refinery

cant remember whether or not this one was finished ....

Yes, it was finished. The objective of the mod was to create a sense of deja vu while playing the mod, without creating a replica of the original DooM2 maps. [This was a (valid) criticism of the remakes of The Shores of Hell and Inferno.]

The scope of the mod was always to emulate only the first few maps of DooM2, not the entire game. Accordingly, the first 10 maps of the mod mirror those of DooM2, and the 11th map is an "independent" map.

It is 100% vanilla/Chocolate DooM-compatible. Therefore, the maps may not be adequately "updated to look modern".
