zerker Posted February 19, 2018 Hello folks. First: Thanks for this wonderful WAD set. I'm really enjoying what I've played so far. However, I've noticed save buffer overflows on Vanilla/Chocolate Doom in a couple maps, and I haven't see any mention of this by searching this thread. Is this a known issue, or am I just crazy? Is everyone else just too talented to need to save mid-level? So far I've noticed this on MAP01 and MAP06 (which is where I've stopped for the time being). I guess I can play with a different source port, but I enjoy using my Retro PC when I can. 1 Share this post Link to post

Save game buffer overflows are sadly a problem the team cant fix(at least for the time being) :( 0 Share this post Link to post
Diabolución Posted February 19, 2018 For vanilla, just replace the official executable with this edited one: https://sourceforge.net/projects/prboom-plus/files/doom2-plus/1.92.6/ For Chocolate Doom, just run the setup program and disable, for convenience and usability, both vanilla savegame limit and vanilla demo limit: https://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/Setup/Compatibility 0 Share this post Link to post
zerker Posted February 19, 2018 Thanks for the reply. I did locate Doom+ after posting about the issue, which works well for my use case. However, since the WAD does advertise compatibility with Vanilla doom, it should probably mention this in the readme file, no? 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted February 19, 2018 I had to go back and check the textfile because I could've sworn the warning was there... Oops, you're right! The issue was discussed quite a few times over the years so I guess we collectively started taking it for granted that everyone knows. Basically the savegame buffer is so restrictive that certain maps aren't anywhere near it and would have to be butchered considerably, so we abandoned that goal altogether. BtSX is saveless by design with the vanilla executable, sorry for the inconvenience! 0 Share this post Link to post
pandres Posted October 8, 2018 Hello, not sure if this is the place to ask. In map 7 and map 9 there are two invisible pinkys that are also invulnerable to any weapon. Is this a bug or by design? what is the player supposed to do, besides avoiding? 0 Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted October 8, 2018 Do you mean Spectres, and are they walking through walls? 0 Share this post Link to post
pandres Posted October 8, 2018 Yes, Spectres. They don't walk through walls fortunately. 0 Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted October 9, 2018 (edited) Huh. Can they be damaged by explosions though? Similar to this: Also I neglected to ask what port you're playing in. 1 Share this post Link to post

bioshockfan90 Posted June 16, 2019 (edited) quality necrobump :^) edit: since this post is useless otherwise i'll just say that I love the BTSX team for producing 2 of my top 5 favorite WADs that I go back to replay multiple times every year, and i'm super hyped for E3 and whatever else you guys have down the pipeline. I didn't mean to reply to this to stir the pot, it was just an off-the-cuff remark. Edited June 16, 2019 by bioshockfan90 2 Share this post Link to post

Then it is possible to run natively DeuTex (the updated one by @chungy and @Doctor Nick, not the ancient and buggy DOS releases). https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/2032327/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Chipper35 Posted November 23, 2019 Um......so: something isn't right...... The monsters and items look fine!! But all of the wall textures are checked......? What gives?? 0 Share this post Link to post
Chipper35 Posted November 23, 2019 Even the green plasma looks fine.......... Walls and floors........blue and white checks...... I don't think I loaded something right?? 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted November 23, 2019 Sounds like you only loaded btsx_e1a.wad, the resources are in btsx_e1b.wad and you need to load both. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chipper35 Posted November 23, 2019 Okey dokey......fair enough.....and I see both WADs. Not quite sure how to 'load' 2 wads, though?? I've associated all WADs with GZ Doom and it pops up a dialogue box, asking if I want to load things in Ultimate Doom or Doom II I've purchased both Ultimate Doom and Doom II at Good Old Games. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted November 23, 2019 Select both files, and drag-and-drop them both on GZDoom. In the dialogue box, select Doom II. 0 Share this post Link to post
esselfortium Posted June 25, 2020 I'm excited to announce that BTSX Episode 1 is now available as an downloabable addon from the official console Doom port! But that's not all: We've heard your complaints about the strange map titles, and have replaced them with even stranger ones for this legally distinct console version. Despite this necessary change, all of your favorite BTSX E1 levels are still here just as you remember them, from "Runoff Fat From The Skygrill" to "Christmas Golf Asphyxiation". 55 Share this post Link to post
esselfortium Posted June 25, 2020 And for everyone else, here's a new bugfix version, 1.1.5: http://esselfortium.net/wasd/btsx_e1.zip 1.1.5 fixes an embarrassing oversight in the 1.x builds, where MAP22 had been accidentally reverted to an old version. This fix eliminates a visplane overflow and restores some missing visual updates from earlier releases of MAP22 (the forcefields and key displays, to be exact). Everything else is unchanged from 1.1.4. Have fun! 35 Share this post Link to post
