Doom in the year 3000

Recommended Posts

Will they look back at Doom as some sort of ancient artifact of invaluable historic weight? maybe aliens find it and out of context wonder what it is.

by the year 3000 having sublimed the standard four dimensions superhumanity's energy stream will be woven through with an absolutely fundamental genetic memory of getting pinned to the ceiling on E2M4 shaping all our further affairs

So, if the aliens in the year 3000 find E2M2, will they assume that humans routinely navigated crate mazes?

And that we could punch through blocks and devoured mushrooms and threw fire before we learned to cross breed humans and raccoons.

You do realize the universe will blink out of existence by the year 3,000 and those of us who survived went back in time to live long full lives.

Doom in year 3000....people will think why there's an ancient shotgun inside of a crate and be effective against hellspawn. And also, will like the music for sure....

The Doom will be wired into everyone's brains. There is no more Christianity, Islam, etc; it is all Doom. People worship the Doom. They perform ritual gibbings of "demons" that were engineered in labs. Billions of dollars went into the development of every type of technology found in the Doom. Society is a complete utopia because the Doom has brought everyone together against the common enemy. The Doom is literally love, and life.

Not much will have changed except we'll live underwater, and your great-great-great-granddaughter will be Dooming pretty fine.

Humanity will probably already have killed themselves before that, or nature will do it.

A very negative vision but lately it's increasingly harder for me to picture a bright future as well.

As I remember from the Absurdopedia, John Carmack worked on the UAC. And when demons arrived on human base, Carmack was the only marine who survived this. After that he traveled to the 1980 and started "normal" life and created Doom in 1990s which storyplot is based on his real lifestory. That's why he declined some ideas by Tom Hall due to they didn't happen with Carmack.

..It sounds like Serious Sam BFE, I think John Carmack traveled back in time to create the alternate Universe where people live fine after 2145 year...If everything will be ok, Doom in the year 3000 is the historic videogame about Carmack who lived before 3000.

P.S.: Does that mean that DaiKatana is about John Romero's lifestory?

Both at once is the most we can hope for (if not aliens, then the giant bugs/birds/lizards that take over for us).

Everyone please record your vanilla demos with Final Doom compatibility, so they're most likely to sync on an out-of-context build of the 1999 source.

Everyone please come to the wiki and write about strategies in your favorite DM wad, in case the aliens are germanium-based and don't have any competitive instincts.

In the year 3000 humanity will be there and will discuss why there are people who still use Boom format

Don't forget the discussions about why slaughter wads suck/are awesome and why anyone would want to play them. They'll still be there, too.

By the year 3000 humanity will have forever abolished violence, and they will consider Doom and other violent games to be a revolting aspect of a dark age, much as we view human sacrifice and slavery today. Or maybe, for whatever reason, they will have a taboo against all things beginning with 'D' and the mere mention of Doom will be considered obscene.

In the year 3000, only a third of the human population will remain. The other 66.6% will have been killed during World War 3. The lucky remaining 33% will get to enjoy Doom 26.

In the year 2947 Insane_Gazebo, Afterglow and Mordeth are reconstructed from DNA, so they may spend the next 50 years finishing their projects in time for Doom's 1000th anniversary.

this is why we've historically had so much trouble with the press

I like to imagine some Mad Max-sque world, where people play DOOM II through DOSbox and old ass CRT sets.

No, Mordeth will be finished long before 2947. Right?

Four and a half billion years from now, when the sun exhausts its fuel and swells to engulf the earth, Doom will still be out there, traveling four and a half billion years. That is, if it’s not intercepted first. Imagine another civilization out there were to experience this, they would think "what a wonderful place the earth must be" and then hear D_RUNNIN for the first time.

I hope other planets' Dooms reach us my lifetime.

some other form of life will think dying on E1M1 is winning the game and there will be plenty of contests to see who can die the fastest.

EDIT: That's a great idea for a jokewad. A mod where the goal is to DIE as quickly as you can. And maybe even with additional challenges like monsters dying automatically after dealing X damage or lava alternating with healing water etc.
