around here there is a tax on the ballet for adult products. porn and dildos tax is like the sales tax and will add 3% onto the sale of any adult products. i just thought it was a wierd tax to have, it was listed along with a shit load of other issues to vote on. anyway what would u do?

It seems to me if it's fun then we must pay for it, stupid I know but...It doesn't make sense to me though, Why have a tax for porn? sex is free isn't it? If it's free to do it then it shouldn't be taxed to watch it, buy toys to aid it or anything else. The possible reason why it is taxed though...Porn stars are paid millions to star in these movies, and who pays their wages? People who buy porn. Taxes suck and should be stopped

There is a tax on tickets to watch the ballet here, seems a shame, going to the ballet can be fun.

They should be taxed just like normal items (so yes, 200% in Sweden). In countries where a distinction is made for tax purposes, then they should be regarded as "luxuries", rather than "necessities" (though I'm sure many people would dispute this!).

Tax on porn wouldn,t severely hurt anyone's economy, and it would mean more money for the government.
Unless you have absolutely no faith in your government's willingness and ability to handle social problems denying the government to gain a spot of funds from taxing an essentially unnessecary product is not the way to go. I would prefer a high tax on a specific product, like porn, much more than a much smaller but general tax. And the government can do good things with your money. If you don't believe in that why the hell do you want it in the first place.

I also believe that marijuana should be legalised, but heavily taxed. Not so much because I approve of it's use as because it would mean more money to the state and less money to the organised crime.

The problem I see with taxing pr0n is that some people would prefer to keep their preversions private. And if you create a paper record of things like pr0n tax, it makes it easier for religious zealots, moral monkeys, and other not-nice people to get on your case.

I thought the question in this thread related to a tax at the point of sale (like sales tax, VAT, moms, or whatever), so there wouldn't be any written record, except at the retailer, and this wouldn't include details about the purchaser.

I'm sorry. I didn't take that into consideration. I live in a country where religious fanatics are too few to pose an actual threat.

i think porn can be an extremely huge time-waster as well.

once celaning out a friend's house we were painting his dad's room and found something. under the bed we found a 'vibrator' however it was really a fancy massager that was broken. the large flat head had snaped off( u could see were) however it did look like a very large dildo

well the porn tax passed. really i dont give a shit because i dont buy porn. I forget the name of the issue and i voted for a chicken to be mayor.

Well, believe it or not, but the people of my town voted for a monkey to be mayor!
(it got 54% of the vote!)

(it was the mascot of the local footie team, and IMO was a good way to show our faith in British politicians)

Fortunately I was away at the time, so I didn't vote. (and I would probably have not bothered anyway)
