  1. Make two separate rooms
  2. Make a 3rd room which connects the two rooms
  3. Lower the ceiling of the 3rd room until it touches the floor
  4. Right-click on the wall of the 3rd room which connects to the room where you will put the player start
  5. Go to the "Actions" Dropdown menu.
  6. Select Door open-wait close
  7. Check the boxes corresponding to how you want the door to open. "When Player Presses Use"
  8. Test Map
  9. Profit

This is for UDMF BTW.

I'm new to making doom wads and I'm having trouble making doors

This is where you wanna start:

Linguica's tutorials will help you get all the basics right. From there you can venture into different mapping formats etc. Not sure which of the tutorials there has the creation of doors in it, but they're all well worth your time.

Welcome to Doomworld and mapping!

With regard to your question, adding a door is in Lesson 7, starting about 2/3 of the way down page 1 and continuing to page 2.

That being said, I agree with @Nine Inch Heels, the tutorials will help you with all the basics. Since you're new to mapping, start at the beginning and work your way up. The tutorials are built around GZDoom Builder, but the principles will work in whatever editor you're using.

If you're using an editor from the DB2 family you can also highlight/select a sector and press Shift-D to create a door.
