Planning on Watching Pulp Fiction tonight for the first time. So I'm going in blind, can anyone tell me why its so popular without giving away any spoilers?

All-star cast. Great lines. Hilarious moments. Stylish. Memorable characters. Just an overall amazing movie that's really hard to nitpick. 

Speaking of classic 90s movies that are effortlessly funny, you should really also see Fargo, if you haven't already. It has some of the sharpest dialogue I've ever seen in a movie.

This is what I'm confused about, is it a comedy? Drama? Action Movie? Or a big mix of all of these genres?

It's all of the above, sir. It's the kind of movie that has something for everyone. 

By the way, if at all possible, you should totally watch the movie while drinking a vanilla milkshake. 

I watched Buster's Mal Heart last night. It was interesting enough to watch until the end I suppose. Maybe it was meant to be deep and meaningful but to me it came across as pretentious film festival schlock.

I remember that movie. It takes place at a video game development studio. I also think its an Adam Sandler movie that he opted not to be in.

Time for the movie dump:

FACE/OFF is an awesome action movie with a laughably implausible plot. I'll watch it again some other time too.

FAMILY MAN is another Nicholas Cage movie that I've never seen where he's a douchebag businessman forced to live a life that he walked away from to become a douchebag businessman. Its a family movie, its a Christmas feel good movie. Even if its not my type of movie, its still a good movie.

THE RUNNER is a political drama with Nicholas Cage about the British Petroleum oil spill and a politician embroiled in a sex scandal after gaining notoriety for being against BP. I liked it a lot more when I thought it was a true story. Since there's no information on it, I have to believe its fiction. Anyway Nick is a great actor in this.

Holy shit, INCONCEIVABLE is some kind of movie that's so bad its terrible. Its another Nicholas Cage movie... but its not his movie, its Gina Gershon's movie. This was some kind of not porn porn full of beautiful people. Super wealthy mansion family has lesbian slumber parties while Nick is at work. At first it was a joke that its a non porn porn and the lesbian slumber parties were still G rated. Eventually it got to the R rating part. Murder happens, someone's troubled history is brought up. I'm making it sound better than it is. Flat acting all around. I have a feeling this wasn't for money, it was for a favor. I go into so many movies blind and that helps enhance the movie for me where its like 95% of movies now are great, but this is the exception.

REASONABLE DOUBT with Samuel L Jackson was a good crime drama, especially if you're into people that make bad decisions. Lawyer hit and runs and gets to defend the man accused of killing the person who was hit and run when he was just driving the guy to the hospital. Its a good movie to ask yourself what you'd do in the situation?

LAKEVIEW TERRACE, another Samuel L Jackson movie about a feuding neighbor. White guy with black wife moves into a widowed black cop. Tension ensues. Then they throw in a deus ex machina forest fire at the end, because that just so happened to be going on during filming. I've seen it before. Still entertaining.

UNTHINKABLE has perhaps the most unthinkably worst ending I can think of... by having no ending. That's not a spoiler, that's a warning. Samuel L Jackson and Carrie Ann Moss in a torture film because someone has 3 nuclear bombs set to explode. So they torture him for 90+ minutes. It came out in a time where torture was a big discussion. Sam plays the guy that does the torturing. I'm talking about chopping off fingers as a starter to the movie.

RED DRAGON was surprisingly good crime drama, because I remember it being surprisingly dull when it first came out. The reviews for it were bad since it wasn't about Hannibal Lecter even if he's in it. Looking at Amazon reviews they're far more kind now as the movie gets 4.5 stars when originally it was at 3 or 3.5 stars. How do I remember this? Because I own the other 2 Hannibal Lecter films on DVD so I wanted to buy it, but saw the 3.5 star reviews and thought... nah I'll just rent it.

THE WEEK OF has Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. It takes a mundane setting of 2 families getting married, filling a house full of 20+ characters and somehow making it work while still being hilarious. I don't know if I've just been starved for comedy, but this was laugh out loud funny in a lot of ways. There are a few over the top, unexpected moments, but for the most part its down to Earth with a lot of heart and hilarity.

BEYOND SKYLINE was a bad sci-fi alien invasion movie that I didn't make it through the movie like a lot of the protagonists. The original movie was a real head scratcher with its ending. This explains more and its even weirder and makes it worse.  I tried watching it twice and couldn't endure. So instead I looked up financial stats to see how much more money the original made compared to the sequel.

TERMINATOR 3 is always a fun movie to just shut my brain off and watch. Big, stupid action scenes and an unconventional story. Firetruck and crane chase scene. Even if it doesn't stand up to the previous movie its still enjoyable.

Well that sums up a few months of watching movies.

A $5 milkshake?

Once every now and then I like to get a milkshake at Baskin & Robins. I find their chocolate moose royale flavour to be very well suited for milkshakes. Dairy Queen's are nothing special. 

Captain America:The Winter Soldier.

Galaxy Express 999 - A condensed retelling of the first season of the anime. Feels extremely rushed. Crucial characters will quickly pop in and out, and very little exposition is provided to glue the story together. The first anime film that was screened in American cinemas. I've heard that the series is padded out, but this movie tries to do too much too quickly. 

Crayon Shin-Chan: The Adult Empire Strikes Back - Not knowing much about this franchise, I heard this was a good introduction, as it's often regarded as the best out of the many, many movies. And yeah, it was definitely quite good. Tells a heartfelt story about people becoming hopelessly married to the past while exploring themes of family unity and getting older. What I find interesting about this series is that it's aimed at children, but has a lot of crass and sexually themed humour that definitely wouldn't fly with American broadcasting standards. Crayon Shin-Chan is extremely popular throughout the world, but it's hardly known to Western audiences. That really is a shame. I highly recommend this. 

Sally the Witch: The Movie - A charming, but short (30 minutes) Mahou Shoujo anime about an evil witch that's preventing the arrival of Spring. Good for what it is. 

Tropic Thunder - Hilarious satire of war movies and Hollywood in general. I love how they throw in and make fun of as many tropes as possible while still managing to be consistently funny the whole way through

Rewatched:

Iron Man - A little worse than I remember. It has a lot of generic action movie shots and stuff, but I think it was a great way to kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Iron Man 2 - Also good. Not much to say here.

First-time:

Atomic Blonde - Wow. I don't know what I was expecting, but I really loved Atomic Blonde. Probably one of my favorite movies, up there with Age of Ultron and Ghost in the Shell.

Avaria - a Cop's Daughter - old soviet drama about girl and her father who works in a police station (militia). Very exciting film about difficult relations between children and parents. Something about my life.

SLC punk. It's a cool flick. I liked the opening titles section, made with photomontage of many punk / ska bands albums, the music (I found myself singing some of the songs) and the crazy movie style in general... Also are Mods such a thing in the 80s in U.S.A. ? At least as form of juvenile subculture... 

Saw The Avengers infinity war back in late April (I don't go to the movies very often) But it was a really good movie!

Literally just got done watching The Disaster Artist. Quite a good film: I like how the filmmakers focused on the drama between the two leads instead of simply parodying the hilarity of the original "Room". It would've been a bit better if the other characters got some screentime, though. Regardless, good film.

Rewatched Dirty Harry. I stand by the fact that it is the best police "cop-vs-killer" thriller film ever made.

Saw Deadpool 2 yesterday! The movie broke the fourth wall in the best way possible!

Ah yes Deadpool 2. If people watch it please don't hesitate to share spoiler free opinions. I wanna know if it's comparable to the first

Annihilation. Excellent sci-fi horror based around a very interesting idea. Some parts reminded me of The Thing, in a good way.

Just as good as the original, and Cable was amazing, the actor nailed it.

Maniac Cop trillogy

...and it was ins't bad at all!

I watched the "The quiet place" recently. Emily Blunt and husband do a rather cracking job on a making this film rather suspenseful/thrilling in a genre that's completely saturated. 

The very last seen was a bit cheese, but Emily is just to die for anyway.. So I'll let her off :-)

I saw the Amanda Knox documentary yesterday. I knew of Knox... stayed in Europe, her roommate was murdered and she and her boyfriend were the only suspects. Its quite the perfect storm for everyone involved. A dislikable, seemingly unstable sex fueled teen has too much sex in Italy, home of the Vadican and everything holy. I won't spoil anything, but its well worth a watch. They have interviews with Amanda, the boyfriend, the detective, some of the lawyers, and a smug British reporter who seemed gleeful at the entire thing. If there's anyone that wanted Amanda's roommate dead it was that guy and he wasn't involved one bit. He offered levity due to how happy he was over this entire murder case. He also has a good quote "if you have no talent, you can always be a journalist."

Deadpool 2. Awesome movie, but I prefer the original. Someone give Domino her own spinoff movie. I'm dying to see more of her. 

"Your name" last friday. What a beautiful  movie.

Also wedding crashers yesterday. It's a ok flick even with some big flaws...

Old foxy knoxy. The British papers were not kind about her, probably be interesting to watch the other side of the story.
