snapshot Posted May 29, 2018 "chromatic aberration, REEEE" Game looks interesting regardless of that. 0 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Maybe we will find some inspiration to Doom mapping. This one reminds me Doom 2016 Edited May 29, 2018 by Teder 5 Share this post Link to post
Doominator2 Posted May 29, 2018 I... Dont even know what I'm supposed to be looking at. 4 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) It's so similar to what you see in the Doom games but also so different. Hell in Doom games never made me feel disgusted and uneasy even though it's very similar to what you see in Agony (especially the Boneyard MP map in Doom 2016). In fact, it's kind of a pleasure to stroll through hell maps in Doom. It feels "awesome" rather than disgusting. Even the blood always gave the impression of kool-aid. When you stroll in Doom's hell, you're kind of either supposed to be awed by the atmosphere or smirk at how edgy it is. There's none of that in Agony. Game is boring and tedious though. Downloaded it, played for about an hour and a half then I just watched a walkthrough. Oh, and to those who are disappointed by the ending, it supposedly has multiple endings. 0 Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted May 30, 2018 Agony's aesthetics are honestly the sole reason I got so intrigued by it. From what little I've heard of it so far, I haven't heard too many good things, but I'll still probably grab it if it goes on sale, if only to satisfy my curiosity. 0 Share this post Link to post

True, the game is definitely not worth 40 bucks. More like 15. 2 Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted May 30, 2018 I might get it just for the sake of experiencing their vision of Hell. What makes me hesitate is the fact from the videos the game looks really clunky and confusing. 0 Share this post Link to post

DooM_RO Posted May 30, 2018 I wish someone did a systematic breakdown as to why Boneyard and Agony are so similar yet feel very different. 0 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) @DooM_RO boneyard is much far different than agony. I love all Doom hell in new Doom and in 1993/4 Doom. Agony is an interesting game. I like these hell conceptions. I just want to play it to look at the places, textures and models. Is much better than Inner Chains. Agony reminds me a bit Observer but I like much better Agony game realm. Imagine Doom marine walking on such places and shooting demons. That would be cool. Doom Hell. 5 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted May 30, 2018 @Teder I can definitely see why people think it's Doomish but to me, Doom's hell is supposed to be a fun, edgy place, with some seriousness mixed in...if that makes any sense. If I see a gothic cathedral made of bloody brick I want to be like "woah, this is so cool" instead of cringing. 0 Share this post Link to post
snapshot Posted May 30, 2018 Doom 2016 Hell didn't have the same impact as Doom 3's did on me, It felt like a desert. If a sequel happens I'd like to see them take inspiration from this or do something like the Multiplayer level Boneyard. 0 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted May 30, 2018 I like very much Doom 3 and Doom 3 hell, but Doom 2016 has much, hmm how to say, funnier/better hell levels. Resurrection of evil hell was for example like fast copy of Doom 3 hell. 0 Share this post Link to post
snapshot Posted May 30, 2018 Yeah Doom '16 Hell is definitely the better in terms of gameplay but aesthetically I feel Doom 3 takes the cake :p 2 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted May 30, 2018 Doom 3 hell has much heavier atmosphere. It's a different type of hell compares to D16. The Spirit World is for me closer to new Doom than D3. 0 Share this post Link to post
HavoX Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) Googled for screenshots from Agony. I've seen worse. 0 Share this post Link to post

Hey, in Doom, you're the badass who's tougher than Hell. It can't be too unsettling because your in-game avatar doesn't let himself be impressed or discouraged by whatever he sees. 0 Share this post Link to post

I mean, when I play a wad and see a bloody cathedral made of bone and blood I'm like "woah, this is so cool" but seeing the same thing in Agony does not have the same effect. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) The universe they created is so intriguing. I kinda wish they made a shooter out of it. Spoiler In the normal ending you find out that you actually triggered the apocalypse in the modern era. What if in the next game you played as a US marine, struggling against the forces of Hell, trying to stave of armageddon for as long as possible? 0 Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted May 31, 2018 Ok, curiosity got the better of me and I bought it. Let's see what it has to offer. 0 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted June 1, 2018 @Glaice - reviwers talk about 10 hours. I play 1-2 hours a day. I've just passed forest. By the way new patch arrived. In the Internet you can see deleted scenes (warning only 18+). 0 Share this post Link to post

I don't like that you seem to be rather weak in game from what I've seen. I come to kick ass and chew bubble gum. 0 Share this post Link to post

Though it seems to me that shock and gore is all the game has to offer. Nevertheless I'm mildly intrigued, I'll probably check it out when it's on sale for £5 or something. 0 Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted June 3, 2018 Visually the game is absolutely amazing. The gameplay is actually not as clunky as it seemed from trailers. But I'm not sure, I don't care too much for the censored content but hey, if GOG ends up releasing an AO version, I'd rather have an unaltered experience. So I'm kind of keeping my playtime below 2h so that if that happens I can refund it on Steam and get the GOG version. Plus it'll probably get a bunch of patches in the meantime. 0 Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) Apparently there will be an uncensored version, Agony Unrated, released in three months. Devs want to make sure that people who have bought it on Steam get it either as a free DLC or with a 99% discount. That's good news. I'll hold off with playing it until the Unrated version comes out. Should also give Madmind enough time to fix a bunch of problems and polish the game a bit. Sucks that it'll take another three months though. https://steamcommunity.com/games/487720/announcements/detail/1648761723383113903 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) With the content policy being updated on Steam, now we don't have that problem. 0 Share this post Link to post
Teder Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) I've just finished. Well, first part is most interesting. Strange city before end and after forest is for me the worst part. Level design reminds me old bad Doom 3 mods with hell. Here some cool screenshots from other places: Edited June 8, 2018 by Teder 2 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted June 10, 2018 I head high hopes for this game, but the reviews so far are pretty disappointing. Seems unfinished and buggy. 0 Share this post Link to post
