Some E3 Alpha (2002) custom maps

Recommended Posts

I was looking for some custom maps at http://www.doom3.ru and, for my surprise, I found some old maps released between 2002 and 2004 who were made to be played using the Doom 3 E3 Alpha (2002) version

Here some screenshoots

Spoiler

In order to play these maps you would need Doom 3 E3 Alpha 2002 (Doom3 v.0.02)

PD: For the maps Lab and Pump the codes are 369 and 666

Download Doom 3 E3 Alpha: http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/windows-games/doom-iii-alpha-002-e3-demo/

Download the custom maps (Official mirror): http://www.doom3.ru/files.php?tipfl=1

Now THIS is interesting.

Very surprised this didn't really gain traction.

How about a playthrough?

The demo itself runs fine but I get massive graphical errors when trying to run the custom maps. Not sure why this happens but it's unplayable.

"Doom 3 E3 Alpha" not the Doom 3 Demo. I was able to play every map in there... maybe I can do some playthroughs

Alpha/Demo whatever, I know that this is. My point was that the actual E3 maps play fine but then I try to load the custom maps (tried the lab and pump maps) I get massive graphical glitches where you can see through all the walls and parts of the screen are white and whatnot. Don't know why this happens.

Speaking on the actual demo, I find it crazy how much they changed the final game to the worse. The pacing in the demo was a lot better, and enemy death satisfaction was considerably greater because of there being death animations rather than the lame ragdoll that was in the final game. It's a pity they changed this.

Anyway, I thought discussing (let alone posting) the leaked E3 alpha built was banned. Was this changed recently?

EDIT: I tired the custom maps on another computer but the same thing happened.

EDIT: Sure it would be cool if you made a video showing these maps.

Try compiling the map before playing it. Ex: testmap warehouse.map and later map warehouse.map.
And remember that .script files goes to the base\progs\e3 folder

I used the dmap command to recompile the maps I downloaded (lab and pump) but I just got an error saying "Error could not load pump/lab". I put the map files into the maps folder and the scripts where you said I should. No idea why this happens.

I have not tried them out. But you could try seeing if they open up in the D3 editor . If they open up then yes . It would work. Although I think would require some tweaking on your side.

I would be really shocked if they worked seeing as this was made with a unfinished version of the game. The maps aren't that special anyway (though still better than the average Doom 3 custom map).

Just out of curiosity about this post I loaded up MAP07 remake. And it worked. I have not played it to see if there are bugs. But I assume there might be some. I'll check them all later maybe.

@hardcore_gamer There are quite a few custom maps that are "id-level" or  maybe surpass it. Then there are average maps, with OK brushwork/details then there are the bad ones, which are empty flat rooms.  Unlike other games I've seen the quality of the custom content for Doom 3 can be alot easier classified.

Hi, so a while back, theisozone went down. However, the site had the best version of the Doom 3 E3 Alpha since it had fixes and stuff attached to it. So I was hoping that someone here has a copy of theisozone version of the Doom 3 E3 Alpha. If so, would you be able to post it here? Thank you
