Books (The ignored)

Recommended Posts

Has the superinformation highway taken you prisoner? Do you feel that all those bytes of info got you down? Read a book!

Seriously, what kind of books do you read (IE, not as paperweights)? What authors you you like. Can you even name those books?

I usually like to read just about anything by C.J. Cherryh. (Heavy Time, Cyteen, Hellburner, Downbelow, The Chanur series) Maybe a bit of Prattchet too (Mort, The Wyird Sisters)

I like to read horrorbooks and scientific magazines. My mom thinks I'm crazy.
By the way, does anyone know any good horrorbooks that just came out?

I read pretty much everything Michael Crichton ever wrote a few years ago. Haven't read that much since then... "It" by Stephen King was compelling enough for me to buy it, and so was the original Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov. I've been downloading a lot of books (both fiction and non-fiction) off the 'net lately, and I suppose I should free up some time to actually read them.

I read too much non-fiction

I think the only non-fiction books I've read were chaos: a new science, and lucifer rising: the history of satanism

H. P. Lovecraft. Sci-fi. Science, philosophy, religion, occult. RPG books. if it's printed, it can't be that bad is my general guideline. but thanks to doom and the big-bad-internet i'm using too much time in front of a computer :)

Ok, if you had to advice me what horrorbook to buy tomorrow (I'm planning to), which book would it be?

as a fan, i'd suggest HPL, if you haven't read any of his work already, which you should have done :) i also like clive barker's stuff, which is a lot more gory. king is as boring as tolkien (i smell some flames now :).

Vileslay - Is American Psycho anything like the film or is it completely different and how good is it? I love the film and i am tempted to buy the book but...kinda wanna know how good it is first.

I don't read much anymore. My faves are Robert Jordan, R.A. Salvatore, and Terry Goodkind. I can't wait for the next Sword of Truth novel.

Another kick-ass book, is Vertical Run by Joseph Garber. Heck, I even converted the book on tape into mp3. :P

I loved it. the main purpose of the book is not really the fact that patrick bateman is a sociopathic multiple murderer, its really a satire on the excesses of the 1980's. that being said, the chronology in the book is different than the films, and the detail is much more explicit. to give an example of the nature of bateman's narration, I'll use his morning ritual. in the movie he explained how he worked out and treated his face and what not. in the book its a five page long paragraph o_O one other aspect of batemans mania is that he describes what everyone he meets/notices is wearing (shirt, tie, shoes, jacket, and sometimes even hankerchief)

I enjoyed the bookfor both the satire and the insane bateman. but my now ex-girlfriend (who still has MY copy of the book >_<) was really annoyed by the bret easton ellis' writing style.
