I don't think we're in Kansas any more, Toto!

Recommended Posts

I have had occasional reports by people that when they try to get to my website they are routed by my host to other areas. I need to find out if this is still happening and if it is, to whom...
So, if you could do me a favor and click on my link and just let me know if it takes you to my site or to OZ or wherever that would be cool. If it takes you somewhere else, could you tell me where? And what Browser you are using? The version of your browser might be important here also - I'm trying to find out if the hosting service is leeching from me...
Here's the link - thanks for the help:

I have the same problem. The last time I downloaded Netscape and it worked with it though.

Well, so far I've narrowed it down to and Internet Explorer thing - it doesn't seem to happen with Netscape - not that anyone has told me anyway - also - one person said they used AOL - but thats not a surprise - AOL sucks!
Anyway - thanks for the feedback - I guess I'll either have to force them to stop leeching off me or move my site (again).

The redirect link someone posted above seems to be a 'page not found' (404) error redirect. It might be that your host is sometimes experiencing connection / bandwidth difficulties, which leads to it not finding your site anymore, after which it redirects your visitors to a generic page. I doubt they're intentionally redirecting visitors.

I appreciate all the feedback all. The only common thread with this problem is that the users who have a problem are all using one version of Internet Explorer or another. Most people don't have a problem at all but some do - maybe it is cookies? For those having a problem, are your cookies enabled or disabled? Have you tried getting there with Netscape?
I'll be honest - they seemed like the perfect host - unlimited bandwidth and hard drive space at no cost - unfortunately their servers are slow and maybe bandwidth is a problem for them or maybe they just need a better server. I don't know. I do appreciate all the feedback tho. Thanks. :-)

I hadn't noticed if there was a common thread with the operating systems since all the users use IE. I have XP and it works fine. Go figure.

Very odd;
Every time i click your link i get routed thru to 'thepornlottery.web1000.com'.
I'm running Explorer v6 on Win 98.

While we're on the subject; could someone check the site on my signature and tell me if they can download 'uw1.zip' or 'olympus.zip'?
I've just moved over to web1000.com, but each time i test the links to the zips i get a message back about the network conditions not allowing the download - however, a smaller zipfile (uwmidi.zip) works fine. Argh!

I got this response:

We are sorry, but the file you are trying to download is larger than the maximum length permitted under current network conditions. Please try again later when network conditions change. The file you were trying to download was 821817 bytes.

Strange. Are you using dialup, ISDN or broadband?

I got a friend on broadband to check it out, and it worked fine.
Ah well, for the time being i'll shift the links back to reznor.demon.co.uk (where i'm storing the zips for the time being), but i'm running out of space there...

I'm beginning to think that web1000.com might have some issues but I was able to download Olympus without a problem. How about providing a link to Jdoom so I can download that and check it out?

Careful not to confuse that link with another not-so-pleasant link. :P

There is no Kansas. :)

Uh...

This problem is likely due to spyware. Have all the people who tell you they can't get to your site run Ad-Aware (available from Lavasoft, search google). It's not the first time a spyware program has done redirects.

Nothing wrong using Internet Explorer. Same with Netscape, both with and without JavaScript active (I don't normally use it anyway). When JavaScript was active it seemed to search for 'http' with no other address. Of course, it couldn't find anything.

By the way, that picture reminds me of the grim reaper in Castlevania.
