SledGeHammer Posted November 19, 2002 there was an article on the net about an id guy saying that the "Frames Per Second" was maxed at 60fps in doom3.. does anyone still knows where to find this article.. i cant find it anywhere 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted November 20, 2002 I can confirm this, as the alpha version DOES max out at 60fps. Which is good, because 60fps is really all you need for a smooth game, and most monitors don't go above 70~80hz anyway. Any performance above 60fps is only really useful when you run into a complex scene and your framerate drops down a few dozen frames. 0 Share this post Link to post
Katarhyne Posted November 20, 2002 The alpha only maxes out at 60FPS if you're not intelligent enough to prevent such. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted November 20, 2002 1) Are you implying that me = teh dumb ? 2) Why would you want to "prevent" this ? 0 Share this post Link to post
Zaldron Posted November 20, 2002 I'd rather not have the CPU process 80 frames of wasted stencils and focus on more important things...like dealing with the collision of 6 ragdolls spawned in the same coords. That about killed my computer. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted November 20, 2002 The alpha doesn't max out at 60fps because I get 80fps when it is at the loading screens. 0 Share this post Link to post
EsH Posted November 21, 2002 Just a dumb guess, but is it possible the game world ticks at 60hz, and thus any screen updates at a higher resolution would be pointless (it would be redrawing the exact same frame it just drew all over again)? 0 Share this post Link to post
Zoost Posted November 21, 2002 This post here http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?postid=1331554338#post1331554338 may give the answer. Has to do with motion blur "If this is so, does that mean you need to limit the max fps for this effect. If you could get this demo down to 2fps, would the motion blurs become extemely long, like a long exposure?" 0 Share this post Link to post
Katarhyne Posted November 22, 2002 Well, first of all, I'd try disabling Vsync... 0 Share this post Link to post
