Websites you go to, but not very often

Recommended Posts

Obviously, some websites are more interesting to you than others. For example, I go to Doomworld a lot. And I go to ZDoom Forums sometimes, and I go to Zandronum forums almost never (but I am very active on Zandronum's multiplayer servers, but only the ones with the mode as "Cooperative").

What websites you go to but you don't go to those websites that much?

All the other Doom sites are like "once every 2 weeks to a month" type things for me whereas Doomworld is a daily staple.

I'll visit Newgrounds once in a blue moon.

Every person I know INSISTS on me using Facebook more, but I use it as little as possible - which is about once a week. Anyone with any sense should delete their account right away but sadly I am not one of those people, if only by demand by family and friends.

There are like two message boards in my fatherlanguage that I vist.

I grew up browsing ogrish and rotten, later bestgore and liveleak. Generally I grew out of this phase, but the latter I today visit rarely because I can not make head or tails of it anymore.

Old clips dosen't sem too work and I vaguely remember being unable to login in. It was over a year ago, so maybe they fixed it - but I doubt that.

Nowdays I mostly rotate between reddit and doomworld.

Same deal except I just use it as a glorified phone book since I have 0 trust toward big companies with any kind of info. Not until there is a law forcing them to reveal everyone they ever shared information with and privacy of information in real time.

I can mention only Mapcore Community. Most often I look at threads with screenshots of new projects and portfolios of various level designers.

Warning! Sometimes stuff that you can see in this thread, can cause heavy forms of Mapping Sadness. Take care.

The interesting thing is that their site is very similar to Doomworld in terms of design. They are probably built on a single web engine.

I check Quaddicted and QuakeOne now and again but nowhere near as often as Doomworld.  I also poke onto Duke RTCM from time to time if I have something to report or want to check if there were replies to anything.

I check out the Polycount forums, though not as much as I used to. I should visit it more often, because it's a great place to check out other people's design work and scroll through job postings.

I sometimes visit miscellaneous websites to check the devlogs of some indie games I'm interested on. I also occasionally visit the ZDoom forums and Quaddicted, the latter only to download maps.

DW is definitely the site I'm visiting most of the time nowadays, followed by a NFS forum dedicated to analyzing and discussing about the games (I actually originate from there, as I joined DW shortly after it stopped seeing much activity and revisiting the classic Doom games), especially their betas and prototypes.

I'd leave a link to the NFS site but most of the forum is hidden to visitors so it wouldn't serve much purpose.

The ZDOOM forum, to check some mods not published/announced here.

I've also recently had some interest in extreme metal, and I have a friend specialized on reviewing extreme metal albums, his blog is called Brutal Sedition (named after a song by Severed Savior). We've been friends since 2014, but I just contacted him again after a long hiatus in metal world a few days ago.

http://commercialsihate.com/ - particularly after seeing some particularly awful commercials, so I can at least get a laugh at what other people are saying about them

https://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ - very important stuff, of course, but it doesn't change very rapidly, so not much point visiting every day

https://arstechnica.com/ - lots of good techie info, but I tend to forget the site exists for long periods

https://www.snow-forecast.com/ - I visit this one quite a lot during the ski season

https://www.spitsbergen-svalbard.com/ - good polar site - I have read a few of the guy's books

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/ - politics info and polling (ugh)

http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/ - can help with travel planning

https://rcdb.com/ - rollercoaster database!

https://www.flightstats.com/ - I find this a good site for tracking flights

http://www.tailstrike.com/ - Cockpit Voice Recorder database - for when Air Crash Investigation just didn't give enough detail

Huh, how come? I loooove NFS. Way back when (around the turn of the millennium), there was a netherland website where you could post your fastest need for speed high stakes times (since the AI in that game was no longer a challenge once you mastered the tracks). I played the bajeezus out of that game and posted a non-tuned time of 1:00:59 on Hometown (or was it 59:59?). And I think 1:12:50 on Raceway 3. Raceway 3 was an absolute blast in the Mclaren F1!

This is about how I feel as well. Part of me says 'delete it', but then I figure 'I've been on it for years, I already KNOW they sell my data and will keep it even after I delete my account. What's the point?'

^ This. The worst bit isn't necessarily what you post, but what others post. Through the posts of my family you could probably work out a LOT about me without me ever having said a word. What food I like, what places I've been, where I live, who my friends are, what music I like, etc.

As for sites I visit semi-regularly, this thread made me realise my browsing habits are very limited in this day and age. Doomworld for the most part, with the occasional visit to Stack Overflow when I'm stuck on a dev job, heh.

Yeah. I'm always careful about what I post on the internet. As far as non-social media posts go (such as forum activities and the like where I'm not using my real identity) I seldom leave any cross-reference to other accounts I might have, and also nothing that's really identifying about my personal life. Though that has more to do with protecting my info against strangers online than against social media companies.

Count me too. I prefer keeping certain stuff private, I might discuss stuff and whatnot but that's about as far as it goes.

I noticed you changed your name. I didn't think that was possible. Not that I'd want to change my name, anyways.

I visit Doomworld, the BeamNG.Drive forums and YouTube.
Every now and then, I pop into the LTT forums and Halo Waypoint even less frequently these days.
