Which wad had the most levels (excluding compilations, joke wads, iwads)

Recommended Posts

I made a topic about this back in 2012 but clearly much would have changed since then.  There's a mp wad called push that has 60, an enjays' aspects tc (that doesn't have a public release due to having copyrighted material) which has 99.  I'm guessing there's an ultimate doom replacement out there with 5 episodes or so.  I'm not counting the mapping/community projects (like doomworld or joymaps) since they're really compilations not meant to be played right through.

Expired License has a total of 160 maps. They're not exactly normal maps per se, but if you're looking for actual map count I guess that applies.

That and the whole 100,000 map jokewads I suppose.

There's a Wolfenstein 3D TC that has a downloadable consolidated version, which recreates the original 30 levels, the 30 levels of the expansion pack, "The Nocturnal Missions," and the 21 maps of the sequel "Spear of Destiny." So, that would total 81 maps.

There's the AlfonZone with 50 maps divided into 10 episodes, each with a them. One of my personal favorites:)

Looking at List of notable WADs and sorting by number of maps, Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch has 79 maps; Star Wars: Chibi Rebellion 78; Doomworld Mega Project 2013 54; and Doom the Way id Did: The Lost Episodes 53.

Don't forget the two Spear of Destiny mission packs bringing it to 123 maps total.

RJmaze is a map that generates rocket jump mazes in a fixed grid based on seeds and parameters. It has 100,000*10*3*12*12 variations, which makes for a total of a whopping 432,000,000 maps in a single WAD file, if you count each variant individually, and you can multiply that by 2 because the map also has an option to automatically add in monsters as well. But who needs random monsters in a rocket jump map anyway?

Right here: rjmazev3.zip

It needs zdaemon to function properly, and you will either need to be somewhat decent at rocket jumping to have access to all options, or use IDCLIP to access some the consoles that are "hidden" higher up in the starting room. When you have entered all the stuff you want, you tell the map to "build" and then it realigns the grid accordingly.

Despite me being horribly bad at rocket jumping (in ZDaemon at least, because not being able to completely aim up and down really confuses me) I find this idea quite interesting and i'm going to check the source code and see if i can make some sort of rougelike dungeon.

EDIT: Nevermind this thing has too much math, my weakness!

Rjmaze was the precursor to Worst's rjrandom where he was experimenting with different types of maze generation algorithms. If that wad interests you, here is the most recent version of rjrandom that I have:

Worst did a fantastic job on this, and I've spent countless hours playing it. There's a possible 10,000 seeds, each with random rules for generating the mazes and their textures. I was also involved a bit. I made a couple of the texture themes and gave Worst the idea to put a statistics counter at the end of the map, which gives each seed a unique name. There's no monsters, but you can collect armor points which are displayed in ZDaemon's player list.

Randomly generated stuff is cool!
