Hellbent Posted February 23, 2019 Doomworld should have a feature where you can change the avatar of other users (but only you see the change). 0 Share this post Link to post
Mister Xiado Posted February 24, 2019 You can with regular expressions, or even by making a browser extension. Only takes a few minutes, but I only know how to make a fixed change, not one where you have context menu control and the ability to make successive changes from within the browser. That said, the changes that should be made here should be those that revert the site to and earlier state, according to much of the Internet that knows how to code. 0 Share this post Link to post

Avoozl Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) The only upside I see is that I don't have to look at those mlp, obnoxious anime or meme related avatars, but ad block already does the job just fine. 4 Share this post Link to post

Roofi Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) I sometimes block anime avatars (some look good otherwise) and usually MLP or meme-related avatars (Team fortress 2 , Spongebob...) with my adblock. (I realized I said exactly the same thing than Avoozl , so I think this opinion is quite common) Just a random example of annoying anime avatar : Edited February 24, 2019 by Roofi 0 Share this post Link to post
Kira Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) T'was about time that I change my profile picture. Hopefully it helps with your feature request. Edit: now it's gone, no more joke 4 u Edited February 24, 2019 by Kira 1 Share this post Link to post
Roofi Posted February 24, 2019 Oddly that picture is less annoying than I thought lol. 0 Share this post Link to post

Hellbent Posted February 24, 2019 You know how to do reverse image lookup, right? Copy the image url of the image you want to find a high res version of, then go to http://images.google.com, then click on the little camera in the search field, and then paste in the url, then click on "more sizes" in the search results. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kira Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) I know (it's something I stole from someone else's forum profile, which is long gone now). It might be from one of the covers, I don't have them at hand right now so I'll check when I'm not procrastinating on trivial searches. Edit: I found it, but it's way too flashy lol. Hellbent Posted February 24, 2019 Wow, *very* obscure. You'll have to get some kind of neural upscale on it I guess. 0 Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted February 24, 2019 What exactly would be the purpose of changing the avatar just for yourself? It sounds like you'd get confused over who was who. Or at least I would. 1 Share this post Link to post

If they're unlikeable then a generic avatar-less avatar with the first letter representing their name will add onto their already annoying nature. Amusingly, some of the most irritable people I've seen on this site have had non-anime avatars. 1 Share this post Link to post

If someone has an avatar that I don't like to look at, being able to change it to something I do like to look at solves the problem without affecting anyone else on the forums. 0 Share this post Link to post
seed Posted February 24, 2019 Nah, I can't really see such a feature being of any use to anyone, if anything, it would probably confuse me more than it should. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's rather revealing when I forget that it's just a once or two word replacement caused by my extension. 0 Share this post Link to post

If the admins have to come up with a feature that makes this possible, then it's already affected somebody else. Never mind that the effort in question would also be unpaid work, done exclusively to "please" a few thin skinned users, who can't seem to handle that different people have different tastes. Asking for such a feature strikes me as immature, to be honest. 2 Share this post Link to post

Lila Feuer Posted February 25, 2019 I'll have you know DW is a pro-furry establishment and doesn't condone the acts of those committed by anime avatars! 😂 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted February 25, 2019 Hiding an avatar is not thin skinned, blocking someone is thin skinned. I don't have to look at something I don't want to, that doesn't mean that I don't respect someones personal tastes. 0 Share this post Link to post
CyberDreams Posted February 25, 2019 Wait...so this isn't a joke thread? Why would you be allowed to change other peoples avatars, assuming that it's only for you too see? I'm sure there are certain guidelines set so that people can't have what would be considered an "inappropriate" avatar, so that shouldn't be an issue. Since the only forum rules that i found were older ones on archive.org that weren't up to date, i quickly skimmed through the Privacy Policy and i found this statement: "By using Doomworld's web site, you agree that you will not submit or otherwise publish through the Forums any content which: (a) libels, defames, invades privacy, or is obscene, pornographic, abusive, or threatening;". So quite obviously everyone knows that it's common sense to not post or display anything of that type. That doesn't seem to be what this conversation is about though. It seems to be about avatar's that are "anime" or "furry" or whatever. Now, i personally don't care what avatar someone has as long as its within what's considered normal forum etiquette. When i joined in 2016 i think Doomworld still only had it's own avatars that you had to choose from. Then it was changed so that people could upload their own custom avatars and now people want to hide or change them? If a tiny 100x100 picture that abides by the rules really offends you that much then you really need to check your priorities. I mean, we all play a game that features blood, gore and gibs as well as hell-type imagery yet an avatar of a cartoon character offends someone. I just don't get it... 2 Share this post Link to post
