Curves and lighting issue

Question

(GZDB / UDMF)

Anyone noticed that when you make any curved wall either with the line curve tool or sector stair builder etc, that the center of the curve is always a little darker or sometimes brighter.

What's the cause of this?

You can also turn it off on a per-linedef basis:

It can be decent to keep on if you have lots of right-angles (like crates for example), but yes, it's super annoying for curved walls.

So changing the textures to "even lighting" (Thanks for tip) solves my problem but is there any way to make this setting default in GZDB? I've tried and can't find any. My maps have many curved areas and it's a headache to adjust them all on a case-by-case basis.

What's the difference between even lighting and smooth lighting?

Only through using a MAPINFO lump in your pwad.

See my link above. Scroll down about half the page.

The player him/herself can disable fake contrast in GZDoom through OPTIONS > DISPLAY OPTIONS > USE FAKE CONTRAST. You could recommend turning it off it in a text file or something, but as pointed out, it can also be a good thing. I use "smooth" as a default myself.
