\\ Classic FPS Games of all times! //

Recommended Posts

We ( I ) love classic FPS games A LOT and there is always some of them that are totally unknown for some or forgotten.

So I want you to post any games of this kind (even the most rare ones)! Maybe we find something interesting or simply bring some of these beauties to life

(Obscure games are welcome!)

Cheers!          ლ(o◡oლ)

- Operation Body Count

- Super Noah Ark (I think that is the name and probably requires ECWolf)

Other notable games:

- Descent series (6DOF genre which is hybrid of FPS and flight simulation. Ahead of time and criminally underrated franchise. Source ports are also available)

- Terminator: Future Shock and Terminator: Skynet (underrated games and very advanced for the time)

Other Not-so notable/Obscure games:

- Radix: Beyond the void (another 6DOF-ish game but more flight simulation-like than fps-like)

- Chasm the rift (reverse engineered port available)

- Bad Toys 3d

- "Pie in the sky" engine games like Lethal Tender and Terminal Terror

Definitely not that Doom game. Horrible. Doesn't even have real 3D.

In all seriousness, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, System Shock 2. It might not classify as a classic FPS, but for me it's pretty perfect.

Quake 2 engine games:

- Soldiers of Fortune games

Soldier of Fortune 2 used the Quake 3 Arena engine. And it's still one of my favorite games ever, especially with the weapons mod v5. And with ridiculous limits, like one save per level, enemies on SOF difficulty, and weapon inaccuracy on.

I will add Project I.G.I 1 & 2 to this list. I really enjoyed them, although I never finished them because they can become frustrating to a fault. And I don't think the Catacombs games have been mentioned either. There was also The Wheel of Time released on the Unreal engine, based on the books by James Rigney/Robert Jordan.

And Operation Flashpoint, although you can play that in either first or third person, like Project I.G.I. I absolutely loved Cold War Crisis, the sprawling map was really unheard of at the time, and having missions on foot, in a tank, in a plane, in a helicopter added quite a bit of variety to the game. But I still remember the first mission I played in it, I was advancing towards a village with some squad mates. I was moving ahead more than I should have, and heard a faint gunshot. And I started limping, and I looked down and there was a bullet hole in my leg. Then I heard another faint shot, and there was a bullet hole in my arm. I bled out soon after. Good times.

ReaperAA why would you leave Quake 3 engine off the list? There was quite a few good FPS games using that engine such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune 2 and Star Trek Voyager Elite Force. Some of the good James Bond games also utilized that engine despite being console only such as Everything or Nothing and Agent Under Fire.

Coz i don't know about Quake 3 engine games apart from RTCW and MOHAA (both are already extremely well known).

EDIT: I have added the games that u mentioned to my list above.

Oh yeah, forgot about Clive Barkers Undying (FANTASTIC GAME on the Unreal engine) and KISS: Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child. Generally favorable user reviews, but I never ended up finishing it. Never really cared for KISS.

Ugh, I forgot that Everything or Nothing is third person, I was caught up on ID Tech 3 and James Bond games that I felt the need to mention one of the best Bond games without realizing it isn't an FPS.

You forgot Strife (uses DOOM engine).

Apparently, I can't read.

There's also Shogo: Mobile Armor Division by Monolith.

And how come nobody mentioned Half-Life with Blue Shift, Opposing Force and Decay (PS2 exclusive, but there's a fan-made PC port)?

System Shock 1 deserves a mention for codifying so many staples of every main genre, but especially first person shooters.

EDIT: Has it been enough time for Halo to count as a classic?

I think Malice is a total conversion (TC) only hence it would still require the original Quake to play, that is unless it's been released as freeware and it can be run as a standalone game now.

Possibly Obscure:

-CyClones (1994)

-The Fortress of Dr. Radiaki (1994)

-ZPC (Zero Population Count) (1996)

-Disruptor (1996) (PS1 only) (fun game imo)

-MadSpace (1997) (for sale on Steam)

-Z.A.R. (1998) (for sale on Steam)

-Requiem: Avenging Angel (1999) (for sale on GOG & Steam) (also not really that obscure tbh;fun game imo)
