KH9l3b_228 Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Here we go. I made a bodycount for Classic Doom. This includes The Ultimate Doom, Doom II, TNT Evilution, Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels. Also Sigil, Tech Gone Bad, and Phobos Mission Control (can't forget our lord John Romero, right?), Heretic and Shadow of the Serpent Riders. The only thing missing is Doom 64. The only other other killcount I found is this one but it has slightly different numbers and is not as precise as I would like. Everything is done on Ultra-Violence (as one wise man said, "the gentleman's way to play Doom"). First goes the total bodycount (just to impress you with sheer magnitude of that carnage). DuckReconMajor Posted July 27, 2019 I think it's very possible to crawl the entire idgames archive (if that's allowed) and tally up all of the monster things marked as UV 2 Share this post Link to post
Gerardo194 Posted July 27, 2019 Only 6 Cyberdemons in Plutonia?? Go 2 it contains 14 of them in the level IIRC. 2 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, 'tis a good point. According to the wiki, Plutonia has 23 Cyberdemons on UV. Yikes! Forgot it was even that high. This is still wonderful to read. Kudos, @KH9l3b_228 ! 0 Share this post Link to post

Gerardo194 Posted July 27, 2019 @RonnieJamesDiner I searched about Master Baggins and it seems it has something to do with The Lord of Rings, is this true?? You.said it, wonderful to read. I did this years ago with Snes Doom only, but @KH9l3b_228 did God's work. Looking forward to Doom64. 0 Share this post Link to post

It should be relatively easy to automatically process all PWADs and output the desired data. 15 hours ago, Armaetus said: What about Hexen? I guess the problem with Hexen is that enemies are also spawned through scripts, that even may be conditionally executed. IIRC monster count (and type) also depends on the class you're playing, so it's much less trivial to get the proper monster count. 1 Share this post Link to post

General Roasterock Posted July 27, 2019 (edited) There’s more chaingunners in Plutonia than Hell Knights, Sergeants, Zombiemen, and Pinkies combined. Completely worthy of being a meme. 3 Share this post Link to post

Gordon Posted July 31, 2019 Good stuff here! The one nitpick I can find is that Plutonia has 4 Spiderdemons, one each in MAPs 05, 15, 32, and 27. Interesting too that Plutonia has the lowest body count of the main IWADs by a good margin. Mostly from not bothering as much with basic fodder enemies. 0 Share this post Link to post
NoCaloriePepsi Posted August 5, 2019 Imagine doing a kill count from the Top 100 WADs list. 2 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted August 6, 2019 I laughed when I saw the chaingunner count in Plutonia was so high, but I wasn’t surprised. Is there an existing Windows-compat things counter for wads? I recall seeing tallies in a few files, usually called WadWhatOutput, I’ve never tried using the tool but if it could be made to crawl the entire database we could get some insane numbers I’m sure. “The known idgames archive contains billions and billions of imps..” 1 Share this post Link to post
Cruduxy Pegg Posted August 7, 2019 (edited) Are you doing this manually? You did Plutonia on a lower difficulty I think. You can easily modify the pk3 to count stuff like weapons or better format the output. Spoiler How to use : 1) Load the mod with whatever mapsets you are playing 2) use the changemap command to go across all the maps you'd like to tally. On whatever difficulty you've picked. (Use skill command first if you don't want to count first map) 3) Repeat 2 until you've went across all your maps. (Close console at the start of each map if you are paranoid like me and want to make sure script executed) 4) In Console do : LogFile Wadname (This starts a new log named wadname-some date stuff.log in your zdoom directory) 5) Type Puke 799 and close console, you should see a tally in your console when you reopen it 6) Type endgame in console Now you can find the tally in your zdoom directory. It needs some cleaning up if you want to post the numbers somewhere but nothing crazy. You can use it on your own mapsets.. Or if you can't resist you can type puke799 to see the total number of monsters so far in console during a normal run. If you know ACS you can easily modify the wad to count weapons\ammo or count only when map is finished. MOD DOESN'T COUNT MONSTERS SPAWNED WITH SCRIPTS BY DESIGN, NOR CUSTOM MONSTERS AND ONLY WORKS IN DEFAULT DOOM (Unless you modify it with the new class names) Monster_Counter.zip 1 Share this post Link to post
Alper002 Posted August 7, 2019 (edited) You seem to have forgotten to count the amount of mancubi(which are known as fatsos in g/zdoom for some reason) in all of those mapsets, @Pegg. Just making you aware. 0 Share this post Link to post

Cruduxy Pegg Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) Hopefully I didn't make more bugs TM but there is no way I didn't miscalculate something or forget something (aside from some items, no one loves you blur sphere and light googles!!) It also has so many damn barrels and SSGs for some reason. Spoiler Monster_Counter.zip Same steps as before. Changemap to whatever maps you want to calculate and when you are done Type logfile "filename", puke 799, close console, reopen console and type endgame. You'll find your log file wherever your logs are created (usually the same folder as the .exe, be it zdoom or any port with acs support). Comes with source code if you want to add your custom classes, edit formatting or fix the ammo formulas to count everything even from zombies. You can even add stuff like calculating total monster health vs average damage of all weapons -good luck calculating bfg. And of course if you want to count stuff in custom pwads. because am too lazy to run through those again :P 1 Share this post Link to post

SchwTrdLeenW Posted August 14, 2019 It depends on where you ask. Most people on this forum probably like them. But if you look into certain youtube/reddit comment sections, then the AV is the single worst thing that has ever existed in gaming history, and Ghosts n' Goblins is a cakewalk compared to fighting one of them. I think AVs need something like a Pride month. 1 Share this post Link to post
