The Official 'Trying to Find a Specific WAD' Thread

Recommended Posts

Now I got a new thing to find. I know the name of the mod this time, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Does anyone remember a "Ring Of Fire" for doom? It may have been a trilogy, and makes heavy use of scripting.

There was a mod with that name on Best-Ever.

@Agent Strange

One link for many: supergun2.wad

There are plenty of dehacked-based mods in this style. You'll find them under names like supergun(s), fastguns, fasterguns, powerguns, superpowerguns... and similar.

Good places to search:

Not really sure but I think this is the map you're looking for:

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/v-z/zaphod12

It's not, but I found it! I dimly remembered that I searched for "castle" - I was looking at early castle-style wads, and I found it. It's Stanley Stasiak's Castle of Evil, dated October 1994:

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/a-c/castevil

It's extraordinary for the period. There are over 500 baddies in a non-linear castle-style map that, for some reason, even has a little bit of E1M4. It just goes on and on! There's also a prototype version of the map:

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/s-u/ss27bet2

The author points out that it crashes Doom if you try to save the game, and that he had to upgrade from a PC with 4mb of memory to finish it. I remember stumbling on it in the archives and thinking it was a real hidden gem that seems to have bypassed the collective Doom consciousness by (it has never won an award or been in a compilation, as far as I can tell). It's ugly but could be polished to a high quality and I enjoyed playing it today, although it reminded me of why I got sick of the single shotgun.

I'm looking for two maps from around 15-20 years ago.

Both are tech bases built inside a canyon/cave setting with brownish rock textures where you walk around the inner part rather than through. They are quite detailed as opposed to vanilla maps.

The first one was probably a show-off or tutorial map from the early ZDoom days. It could had been made for Legacy, though, I don't remember anymore. I do remember that it had an arachnotron sitting on a platform that was surrounded by water or nukage.

The second map was a regular one and featured several crates near the beginning and a snake-like tech corridor near the exit. I think the corridor enclosed a small lab room with glass windows. I don't remember if it featured any liquids. It was darker, and the canyon was tighter than with the first map, but it wasn't generally too dark. There was some kind of stairs near the start, probably also a lift. The map could have been part of a megawad or some other kind of multi-level wad.

I looked through my backup CDs and DVDs but couldn't find anything that might be what I'm looking for, although I believe to have saved those maps back then.

Hi all. I’m looking for a megawad, that if I recall is relatively old. On the first map you start out in a house. And the rooms are pretty small. The wad features some cutscenes and I remember during one of them your riding in a jeep and a Metallica midi is playing.

The description reminds me of Kurt Kesler and his "K maps" from that era.

KZDoom3 and KZDoom7 in particular

None of Kesler's maps, sorry. Both maps I'm looking for have a gallery-like hallway surrounding part of the canyon/water/nukage. You can look outside from that hallway.

So a while ago I posted here about some really old jump maps (10+ years) i was looking for. i have a little more information now. i'm CERTAIN they were made by cutmanmike because i found a few zdoom forum posts he made about them. unfortunately they link to an old geocities page, and none of the files themselves are archived anywhere i could find. i do have the filenames though:

anarchy.wad

desertp.wad

icemount.wad

legendary.wad

platformtrain.wad

spacemov.wad

they could also be .zips as they were on the original site.

@Bob Evans had a Compuserve backup but disappeared just as mysteriously as he reappeared. He hasn't checked in since 2015; I hope for the best.

Yeah I figure that backup isn't going to be found, but was hoping someone had these ones in particular stuck on a hard drive.

Alright here's something vague.

All I remember is a map with a large plutonia textured coast area with lots of piers and a ship in the background.

Many Hell Knights and key doors.

I'm looking for a single map wad I played in my university days, so it could be anything from 6 - 10 years old. Could be even older though, if it wasn't fresh when I played it.

Things I remember (vaguely):
- Started out from a plus sign shaped room with windows at each end.

- Sky was red(ish)

- I think it used the Legion of the Lost track from TNT. I'm not 100% sure though, but I definitely remember it being an intermission music

- Had detailed architecture

- Hellish castle theme (or dungeon, or that sort)

Beyond that I can't remember details. I really liked that map and it was a huge push for me to become a mapper, so I'd love to play it again.

Edited: I was looking for a trash WAD where is Doomguy "must escape from the planet until it explodes". I do remember that Aquarius did a video (but since he doing only Quadripple videos I can't find it fast) and I do remember that game plays "Rules of Nature" music here.

P.S.: +1 to @Aurelius

Random, but looking for some Mike "Prower" Reid wads.

In the text file for Helios Project - Stage Alpha he states the following under the additional files by author section:

Anyone happen to have them?

Also curious if anyone has the credits for the Beyond Doom Unfinished TC, where Reid apparently had three levels, but figure that's more of a long shot.

I found this post during my annual namesearch

You made me go digging. I recognized THEICE! as being my first map ever made, but it was nowhere on my hard drive. Thankfully my dear old dad (the guy who was running the frad.org server for so long and providing all the frads in #doom2 email addresses for a while) is a hoarder and still has his entire BBS backed up so he managed to find two of them.

Not sure what you're expecting with these, but as the file timestamp indicates, they're from Oct 10 1995 and Dec 12 1995. They're Doom levels made by a 9 year old in the infancy of Doom custom maps. As THEICE!.txt says, "anyone who thinks this one sucks will be greatly surprised when I learn to make doors." And to my 9 year old self's credit my maps did get slightly better after I learned to make doors.

So here you go, attached and fresh out of '95.

I'm trying to find a map that I think was in some Zdoom forums project, and it was by someone a bit famous, but I can't remember who.

Basically, the map was almost fully plain ground, but as you walked, it would build rooms out of nowhere. I think it was a map31 or 32 since it was so experimental.

Any ideas, guys?

Edit: Zpack, E3M0, thanks @Negrostrike

Hey I'm new to Doom Wads and I'm looking for Wads where it's a total reskin. New music, new weapons, new sounds, etc,. To be more clear I've been playing a Star Wars themed one and I'm digging it. I like feeling like I'm in a brand new environment. Any suggestions?

Here is a demo map for an Aliens total conversion. You can also use the pk3 file with most other wads to make them into "alien" experiences. Still a work in progress.

And some gameplay:

Spoiler

You want stuff called "total conversions."

This is a good list to start: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Category:Total_conversions
