candreeck Posted October 18, 2019 I completed SIGIL and now I'm playing Eviternity. Both are really wonderful. I want to play more incredible fan work, but my condition is... it has to be DOOM. I don't want to play, well, another IPs, but on DOOM engine, like Aliens, Wolfenstein etc. Could you introduce me one of the best wads similar to SIGIL and Eviternity? I want to see new ideas and themes, but I want to feel like I'm playing as DOOM guy/slayer ;) 3 Share this post Link to post
soner du Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Eviternity and SIGIL are respectively MBF-compatible and limit-removed, they're not exactly 100% DOOM... (not playable with the original engine) What doom-like engine are you using ? 0 Share this post Link to post
TheNoob_Gamer Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Check out some TCs/PCs like Pirate Doom, Skulldash, Valiant, Strain, Ancient Aliens, REKKR, BTSX series, then. Spoiler TC stands for Total Conversion mods, PC here stands for Partial Conversion mods. Most of those are created with a very strong Doom spirit in mind, and assuming you are using GZDoom, all of those titles can be played. 2 Share this post Link to post
Jaromir Bergmann Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) for Doom1: Romero's E1M8b.wad (Sigil-like details) for Doom1Ultimate: Knee Deep in ZDoom episode = Doom 1 Episode 1 remake. huge, ultra detailed levels (lots of key hunting tho) for Doom2: mapwich_v0.8.pk3 (maps Baphomet's..., Technical... and A Nation...) megawad, alienated_rc1.wad (colorful palette) megawad and hurt.wad (the best hell themed map, tends to lag even on gtx970 tho) with STRG_WEP.wad mod (adds hammer, drill, uzi...). bbv11.wad + brigandine.wad + breach.wad are some nice detailed levels too. NiGHTMARE Posted October 18, 2019 For a couple of megawads that are REALLY Doom-like, try Doom the Way id Did and Doom the Way id Did 2. The whole point of these wads was to recreate the style of the id Software mappers as closely as possible. 5 Share this post Link to post

Akenore Posted October 18, 2019 This isn't a wad, but I recommend it to anyone who has doom. Try Complex Doom. It's gotta be my favorite Doom modification. It has a huge fan base and the addons for it are extensive. 1 Share this post Link to post

Great choice! Here are a random selection of wads I'd recommend to most anyone who loves classic Doom with no BS, in no particular order. Some are 30 maps, some are less: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/themes/mm/mm_allup - 32 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/scythe - 32 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/g-i/hellrun2 - 1 level https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/reverie - 32 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/s-u/tdevil2 - 7 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/thtthren - 20 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/a-c/bermuda - 1 level https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/jpcp - 32 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/btsx_e1 - 26 levels https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/av - 32 levels You'll find these all to be sufficiently DOOMy I think 6 Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted October 19, 2019 8 hours ago, Doomkid said: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/themes/mm/mm_allup - 32 levels I don't really recommend Memento Mori though as it has not aged well. Its fondly remembered because its the first ever Doom 2 megawad. The other recommendations are good though. I recommend The Darkening E1 and E2 instead (old but have aged much much better imho). 0 Share this post Link to post

On topic, yes Back to Saturn X is your golden ticket if you want something alike Eviternity, and I'd say Valiant and Ancient Aliens too, both by the same author. Might as well check Sunlust since it's your quintessential level-up megawad, has carefully tuned combat, and beautiful layouts. I'd suggest Epic 2 (prequel first perhaps), egyptian themed and makes you think outside of the box here and there, though mostly not designed to run immediately inside areas without peeking at corners. If old-school tickles your stomach (?), Plutonia 2 and by extent Kama Sutra, they are a bit rough around the edges but still demand good reflexes. You'd need a copy of plutonia.wad for the former, if you own Final Doom, and if not then I'd get them first. Then as far as pure Doom 1, there's No End in Sight which starts low-key and jumps to devil territory in the latter episodes (get this version). Absolutely Killed is a great example of ideas that aren't obvious at first sight, a must-check imho. You only asked 10 but there're innumerable examples worth checking, just using the search button and checking some of the threads linked above and your list is suddenly as long as a dictionary. 3 Share this post Link to post
