The Doom Community is Brutal! Post Your Favorite Metal Bands/Songs

Recommended Posts

We all know that the soundtracks of Doom and Doom 2 have a a lot of songs based off of classic metal riffs and drum patterns. I LOVE it! Being a huge death metal fan, I was wondering, how many people out there in the Doom community are metal heads? Who else enjoys moshing and headbanging to those heavily distorted guitars and slamming drums and demonic vocals? I know this is a random thread but I got inspired to do it when I finally received my vinyl copy of Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness" in the mail today. Did you know that the guitarist of this band,Trey Azagthoth's favorite video game is Doom? And that when they come out on stage, they play the music used for "Hangar" in PSX Doom?

Post your favorite tracks and bands on this page and let's see what different metal bands we can discover! Doesn't matter what genre. I wanna know what you guys like :)!

Things to Keep in Mind

-No elitists!

-No genre bashing.

-Obviously giving a polite opinion is fine just don't be rude and say something like "This band sucks!" Everyone's different and that's what this is about!

-You can post links to music videos on Youtube or w/e but NO DOWNLOAD LINKS!

Trey apparently was very into Doom and Quake at some point. He made some wads in the past and if I'm not crazy I remember him saying in an interview he met his wife in a Quake forum.

The album cover of Domination gives strong Doom vives too.

I would love to play his WADs. I wouldn't even care if they sucked. lol

I think I definitely qualify as a metal head, although I only really got hardcore into Doom in the last couple of years, that said I always pretty much liked it, but Killer Instinct probably had the biggest hand in making me into metal if any videogame did.

But its not very hard to see what the correlation between liking Doom and liking metal would be.

I did not know that Trey Agzagthoth's favorite video game is Doom, but I do know offhand that he played in a Quake 3 clan called The Sailor Scouts. Morbid Angel kick ass. Altars of Madness is a classic.

Found a video play through of Trey's WAD. It's not available for download anywhere I've looked because apparently he though it would be a good idea to throw the Doom 2 IWAD for free into the zip. But I guess we can watch this if any one is interested. IDK how this person found it.

Yeah for some reason a lot of metalheads seem to unironically like Sailor Moon. Not that I can judge, I'm the hipster that likes Cutie Honey.

The guy who did the new Killer Instinct OST is the same one who did the OST for Doom 2016. Mick Gordon.

Cutey Honey is my favorite female superhero. No joke.

Yeah, I was referring to the music of the original Killer Instinct and its sequel, which was composed by Robin Beanland. The recent Killer Instinct has one of the best soundtracks in modern gaming though, its just fantastic.

I think something essential of doom is music, it is legendary in all its aspects, and in fact it was what made me like metal music today, and I do not regret anything

I've listened to metal for a loooong time, but unless it's really progressive or boundary-pushing it just flies over my head. Most of the metal I listen to now is from my adolescence or the 80's.

My newest obsession is Animals as Leaders. I would kill for that guitar tone.

I was in a groove metal band before as the vocalist. But with time I realized I want to make different type of music. My style leans to power metal and progressive metal lately, particularly bands like Hammerfall, Nevermore, Iced Earth, the Bulgarian Prog band Yuvigi, Blind Guardian, Dio (and Rainbow with Dio) and Rush. Of course, I like most of the other aspects of rock. As well as lots of other music. It's easier for me to state what music I don't like:

  1. Techno, house and other such disco music where I can see no art at all.
  2. Viral pop - self-explanatory.
  3. Balkan (and perhaps any sort of) pop-folk - too much porn in the music there.
  4. Songs with lyrics that make no sense, especially by singers that can't sing.
  5. I don't know why, but I really don't like SKA.
  6. I am very picky about rap. Depends a lot on the rappers and their voices. (I myself have also sung rap.)
  7. Black metal. Surprisingly or not, I am spiritual and hate anti-christ stuff. Behemoth make me feel bad in the guts.
  8. Marylin Manson is connected to the previous. I dub him a good singer though.
  9. Grunge - except Alice In Chains. But I like post-grunge (Godsmack, Alter Bridge.)
  10. NU Metal - except System Of A Down, but I view them more as jazz than as rock.
  11. Regardless the music they play, I hate singers with downright screamy voices. In mind come even vocalists of metal bands I like, such as Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Bryan Johnson, Vince Neil, Dave Mustaine, etc. For some reason I like Geddy Lee's voice though. This doesn't include vocalists who do high pitched operatic screams as a part of their repertoire to add extra effect - Rob Halford, Stu Block and Joachim Cans come in mind here. In fact these are amongst my favorites.

Yep, I'm a big death and black metal fan and used to pretty seriously play drums. Here's an oldish vid of me practising blast beats in my very patient mum's shed:

(Although I also cringe at the typo on truly. But considering the direction this thread has turned, it's inevitable someone would post this, sooner or later.)

Ya, metalhead here too if it wasn't obvious by now, for starters :p .

But I originally started with certain bands former colleagues from school listened to, such as AC/DC, Metallica, Hammerfall, In Flames, that kind of stuff. Much later on, though (I think around the time I was 14 or so) I discovered Dimmu Borgir through someone, and shortly afterwards I found myself digging really deep into black and death. I admit that initially I could not really appreciate those 2, and I'm going to say extreme metal is definitely an acquired taste, it isn't for everyone and it isn't easy to get into, it took me plenty of listening to the likes of early Dimmu, Darkthrone, Bathory, Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal and so on until it eventually managed to grow on me and I started appreciating it properly.

Despite those being my favorite genres, I also like thrash, speed, doom, heavy, and other music genres as well (dark ambient, (neo-)classical, dungeon synth, country, folk music, synth stuff, and more), and despite what the common misconception says, liking metal has actually nothing to do with liking Doom in my case. In fact, I'd much rather have something else to listen to when playing Doom, such as ambient music.

Since we're talking metal, anyone else got an appreciation for the "Epic Metal" bands, like Symphony X or Blind Guardian?

Me too guyzzzzz, I'm metalhead since I was 11 years old kid. Metallica "Kill Em' All" and "...And Justice For All" was my first albums. Defenely, 90% of my favorite music is stuff with loud electric guitars. :D

Yep, big fan of those guys, also Kamelot, at least from when Roy Khan was on vocals. They've never been quite the same since he left.

I started pretty much with symphonic and power metal bands, but recently I kinda have shifted in tastes a bit more towards doom and melodeath. Which makes it interesting what bands of the former variety I still like and listen to, such as the above mentioned three. Also I'm someone who always wants something new and different, the oldest stuff I have in my library is basically Iced Earth's 90s output, which I prefer to basically everything similar to that. I'm hoping the third Demons & Wizards album is on par with the first two.

Of course I still like symphonic a lot, just now more mixed with death or doom metal, so like Meadows End, Septicflesh and Ne Obliviscaris. I know Dimmu Borgir kinda fits this but well... I never really liked them. I am kinda picky, but when something fits me just right I truly embrace it. And in the last month alone I found Barren Earth, Helevorn and Wilderun who are all excellent. And you know what I said about symphonic?

Spoiler

More like a symphonic atom bomb, damn.

I've been listening to metal before getting into doom. Don't know how to explain but my favorite style of metal is: ''Thrash metal that's one step away from being death metal but it's still considered thrash metal'' Like some German Thrash metal bands like Sodom.

I'm getting into Black Metal recently so far my favorite band is Parabellum

The Iconoclast is an amazing album. My Power Metal tastes are pretty much Iron Savior only at this point.

Not a big fan of Metal from the kinds of Metallica, Slipknot, AC/DC, etc., but I do love Industrial Metal, Grunge and Sludge, with Nine Inch Nails being one of my favorite bands, and Alice in Chains one I also like listening to.

Also worth to note that I like this, whatever genre it is. Forgive my ignorance, but is it some subgenre of metal, or punk?
